Re: Algeria are champions of Africa
Too many dudes here focus on short term results without assessing long-term performance. Senegal are a very flawed team. They struggle to score goals. They were poor at the WC but dudes here ignored this and decided instead to celebrate their win vs Poland. Lo and behold, Senegal did not make it last the group stage.
During this ACN, Senegal also struggled to score and it came as no surprise Algeria played the way they did today. Why take unnecessary risks when you can just defend and make life even more miserable for Senegal's woeful attack? Even if this match was 270 minutes, Senegal were not scoring.
The final was awful and Algeria was also poor but they were the best overall team in the tournament.
The ACN's quality is still bad. Don't think it has been good since 2008.

"more African teams" said Tx...Again, as has been said for decades, African football is a blastocyst barely borrowed into an endometrium that's tumbling down. Quality, shocking. With a cup to place for, Senegal were launching aimless up and unders, delivering set pieces worthy of bronze place playoff in the New Delhi drunken kabbadi championship. Not an ounce of brain in effect.txj wrote:Even at this early stage, this Algeria team will get nowhere in the WC...

Yes. Niang is a very poor CF. But you also have to question the set up of the team behind him. There are too many defensive players in the team, making it hard to create chances. This lack of balance between offensive and defensive players has been the problem with Senegal.YUJAM wrote:Tried to watch some of the game at work. Oga Ohsee identified the problem which is you simply cannot win with a guy like Niang at CF especially in a game like this when the margins make the difference. All of Ohsee's observations about Niang are correct: Bad finisher and wrong decision making.
The fault for having a player like Niang in all the games despite his non-performance falls on Cisse and he may be fired because of this. OK, there are more problems for Senegal because given the talent they have, their tactics that lead to goal scoring chances should be greater. But for me, Cisse is a problem too
They relied on shots from outside the box for 60% of their goals. To negate this, the Algerians made sure they gave them no room to shoot. Offensively, Senegal had nothing and offered nothing to trouble the well drilled Algerian defence.
It was a very poor and disappointing final.
Arsène Wenger at Arsenal, 1996 to 2018. I was there.

Waffl. For me their Achilles Heel is around tactical variation in their passing play. Their tactic is to find the open man and figure it out from there. It says a lot about the individual quality of their players that they’ve been able to do well despite the lack of variability in their passing and attacking patterns
That said, I think the future is bright for them. They simply need to either get rid of Cisse for a coach that can get them to be more nuanced in their attack, get additional help for Cisse or see if Cisse can figure it out.

BTW for some reason Herve Renard has been in Dakar even before the end of CAN. He even participated in the Dakar marathon. Interesting developments.
