Based on his innovations in his only true season in charge, having fallen ill in the 2nd season, I have always felt that he could've surpassed Pep Guardiola.

His use of of the 3-4-3 was especially instructive, and how he would bring his fullbacks into central midfield to create an overload.

Note also his use of Adriano as a right back, to come onto his stronger left foot, cutting inside from wide.

Unlike Pep, had a tendency to vary the passing range/diversity of the team, in the clever mix of long to medium range passing.

Re his use of Alexis Sanchez in that regard to play on the shoulder of the last defender as well as stretch out the opposition and counter the high pressing tactics.
