I could extrapolate this to African football. We are always poorly supported at world cups and the first time we had proper African support an African team, Ghana nearly reached the semi finals

Interesting perspective. I've always observed that Nigeria's teams tend to be several notches off rhythm whenever we don't have a large presence of fans especially the football supporters' club and their music.

I actually think it is a very significant observation requiring further research.
The '12th man' theory has now been shown to be real in this natural experiment.

Its just mind blowing that in the last four seasons combined only five clubs have had better away records than home records; but this season alone, 7 teams have better away records.
The stats are very compelling. 50% of EPL teams have shown no home advantage this season. Wow.

Our Super Eagles need to get back to their true home in Lagos asap.
