The ref did not force Ter Stagen (who should know better) to keep hoofing air balloons up front where the forwards kept losing them. Basically, giving away possession. You would think that he would stop, after 2-3 times, but noo…., he kept at it.
A goalie at this level, with his experience, should know the right trajectory of the ball to send to the forwards. It was inexcusable!

OK, OK. I was thinking of on-field red cards.

The events leading to the third red card are a clear example that Barça had stopped playing. A player ran to the by line taking on two opponents and draw a penalty when he could have cut to the right earlier for a better chance. Then the coach yells at the officials and gets his red card.
That coach if he were serious, would have reminded the players that they were still in it and to remain calm. His actions exacerbated the situation.

I’m no fan of Real Madrid, but put RM in that situation, with the same players, and you will have a different outcome.
