Moroccan side Renaissance Berkane have been awarded a 3-0 win over USM Alger in the first leg of their Caf Confederation Cup semi-final despite refusing to play after their kit was confiscated by Algerian customs officials.

The shirt Berkane intended to wear features an extended map of Morocco which includes the disputed territory of Western Sahara.

The Moroccans have been using a smiliar jersey for two seasons. Besides did the Algerians expect the Moroccans to play without tops?

These are the kinds of shenanigans North and West Africans used for decades to win CAF games only to embarrass African on the World stage.

The Confederation of African Football's interclub competitions committee decided to award a victory to Berkane and referred the case to a disciplinary commission for possible additional sanctions.

When asked for clarification on the decision, a Caf spokesperson told BBC Sport Africa the matter had been dealt with "by competent structures that are independent of the administration" of the governing body.

"Caf, at both administrative and leadership level, does not have a position here," the official added.

They wore the jersey to provoke the Algerians. Morocco and Algeria have been beefing for decades over Western Sahara. Why did the Moroccan club have to wear that jersey? I thought football and politics should not be mixed. The Moroccans are pretty much allowed to do whatever they want and CAF president Mumusepe looks the other way.

They have worn that jersey all season, and wore a similar one last season. To suggest that they did it to provoke Algerians is a stretch.

I think the CAF President's wife or sidechick is Moroccan or the Moroccans have a picture of him with a "Male" hooker in a hotel room in Rabat!

A row over an extended map of Morocco on a football shirt has escalated after the Algerian Football Federation (Faf) and club side USM Alger lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

Both legs of the Caf Confederation Cup semi-final between USM Alger and RS Berkane were called off because the latter club insisted on wearing a strip bearing a map of Morocco which includes the disputed territory of Western Sahara.

The map is seen as a political provocation in Algeria.

Faf and USM Alger have asked Cas to to rule that the Berkane shirt "contravenes the laws of the game, Confederation of African Football (Caf) regulations and Fifa rules".

The world governing body's equipment regulations state that no item of kit which includes political statements or images may be worn.
