Alternatives to Balogun
Balogun is too injury prone
Awaziem is a hype job who is completely out of his depth at this level
We need someone who can complement Ekong in defence regularly
If we dont sort it out we are finished
My choices are:
1/ Omeruo
2/ Wilfred Ndidi
3/ Otigba
We also need to bring back Esiti (our second best DM) to accompany Mikel in midfield if Ndidi is deployed as a center back

Re: Alternatives to Balogun
I believe Omeruo is the guy. He got the position too early and that got to his head.
I hope he has learnt his lessons, and should re-focus himself to achieve greater heights
primarily as a defender.

Re: Alternatives to Balogun
Omerou is in pole position....Center back is not a position for rookies
Re: Alternatives to Balogun
You folks are funny.
The same Awaziem derided by many will end up being the better center back of the two.
There is a reason why his star is on the rise, while Omerou's is not.
Watch this space...

I agree with you and I bet if we qualify for the WC, I predict that Awaziem will partner Balogun in the heart of the SE defence.Otitokoro wrote:You folks are funny.

Re: Alternatives to Balogun
Awaziem was just thrown into the deep end too early. Too many variables, Omeruo at least should have played because that would be one change less.
Re: Alternatives to Balogun
I know we are al angry at that loss to South Africa and justifiably so, and of course in situations like this, its always easy to scape goat one player or another for a woeful display...but truth is the reason we lost wasn't so much down to any individual mistake, the whole team lacked something and that was leadership and experience, Awaziem didn't even play that badly IMHO, he was just part of a whole bad team system.

Balogun is Nigeria best player.
Winners do it the right way.

Balogun is Nigeria's best defender, mikel is best midfielder and Victor Moses is the best attacker, without Balogun Algeria would have massacred the super eagles last yearohenhen1 wrote:Balogun is Nigeria best player.

Nah. Ekong is our best defender.9jaMan wrote:Balogun is Nigeria's best defenderohenhen1 wrote:Balogun is Nigeria best player.
Balogun is just ok but too injury prone. He is also very uncertain with the ball at his feet
My first choice would be Ekong + Ndidi in central defence.
Shehu as RB , Amuzie as LB
Re: Alternatives to Balogun
lol dude stop smoking that shyt, Ekong is no where as good as Balogun and that's a FACT, though both defenders are our best for now...shehu as RB isn't ideal..will take Aina and Ebuehi over him if they come good for us in that position.smartbrother wrote:Nah. Re: Alternatives to Balogun
Balogun has the better positional sense, Ekong the versatility to recover quickly and mop things up...Their combined whole is greater than the sum of their individual parts..
Re: Alternatives to Balogun
The question is where is the beef ? Where is the goal coming from? Mr Rohr must find a way to inculcate Onyekuru into his team , He has proven beyond every reasonable doubt he is prolific scorer by scoring 25 goals in one of Europe major leagues. Unfortunately, he scored all these for a mediocre team thus it proves he did not score those serendipitously. Mr Rohhr must find a way to the get the best out of him, He is a proven commodity. Mr Rohr must desist from the philosophy the devil he knows is better than the angel he does not know. The boy is phenomenal player hence he is must addition to SE. Right now he is miles ahead of Kelechi, Musa, and Simon Moses. In our last few matches there is been glaring paucity of goals because of these ineffective and inept attacking players.
Re: Alternatives to Balogun
My first choice in defence...
Mikel and Ekong/Balogun.
I saw Mikel play CD for chelsea..and he was steady as ship. Great playability from the back out too. We have two good DMs in Ndidi (space closer) and Etebo - energizer bunny (Onazi's time to chop bench has come)

Re: Alternatives to Balogun
There is no beef. Kid is not good enough for the SE at the moment. At least, not better than those there.
Also he needs to be a better team player. Him moving to a more competitive league will be helpful for him.

Re: Alternatives to Balogun
You have a very limited understanding of the game if you think balogun is on ekong's levelTobi17 wrote:lol dude stop smoking that shyt, Ekong is no where as good as Balogun and that's a FACT, though both defenders are our best for now...shehu as RB isn't ideal..will take Aina and Ebuehi over him if they come good for us in that position.smartbrother wrote:Nah. Ekong is by far the better player
