IKECHUKWU EZENWA TO START AGAINST CAMEROUN

Post by anointed »

Akpeyi is injured and Dele Ajiboye has been invited to camp to replace him.

Didn't see this on the front page so sorry if I missed it.

Link will be up in a jiffy

It would have been all over if that useless goalkeeper had manned the post

Ezenwa looked like a decent keeper in the recent CHAN game. He may well be in better form than Akpeyi at this point.

Ezenwa looks decent, and can't imagine him being any worse than Akpeyi. Btw, how many league games has Ezenwa started this season and is it true than Ezenwa is no longer the first choice keeper for his club?

So what will the first choice keeper at his club be doing on Friday, assuming he is a Nigerian.

One positive though (I know some may disagree) is that Rohr finally confirmed that Vincent Enyeama is back. He is not in the squad because he is currently recovering from injury. Rohr also seemed to insinuate that his impending lack of first team football at Lille will not affect his invitation if and when fit to play.

Ezenwa has manned the posts for FC Ifeanyi Ubah almost through out the league season this year. He's been one of the best and has always been a confident one since his youth international days.

I think something that goes for him is that he's been in the reserves for this S.E team for 2 years and has been in charge for the CHAN eagles.

He is not a fidgety goalie so I hope he does not start being a fidgety one this Friday

2 years ago we were saying this was the deepest pool of quality GKs the SE ever had (Enyeama, Ejide, Aiyegnuba, Ikeme). Now we are down to this. Life...

Is Ezenwa really better than Akpeyi? If so why was he third in line before Ikeme's illness and 2nd choice to Akpeyi? I hope we don't wish we had Akpeyi o!

Then answer the second part of the question. And did you watch him play for the SE to a definitive conclusion that he is better?

I have written a lot on the GK position on this forum & wrote before the Bafana game that Ezenwa was the best option in camp. I believe there are better Nigerian keepers out there than all 3 we are parading, but Ezenwa has not done anything to hurt his cause. He has been adequate during the Nigerian All Stars tour of Spain and for the CHAN Eagles.

Akpeyi is putting up Agbim like stinkers for the national team, dropping crosses and all. Nwolokor and Uzoho are progressing better than Alampasu in Europe, so I see no reason for Alampasu's invitation at this point.

Ezenwa might not be the best keeper in the NPFL, and has not even been the main starter for FCIU this season, but he has done nothing to hurt his national team chances.

The only thing I was worried about was the goalkeeping position. I don’t rate Akpeyi and I’m not holding out much hope for Alampasu, so by a process of elimination, I was hoping that Ezenwa would start. I could not understand the ‘big boy treatment’ Akpeyi was getting (he was not in France), short of release restrictions due to FIFA rules.

Ok. I wish him the best. I just think Akpeyi gets bad rap on this board for a game that Nigeria had no offense, midfield or defense in. From the list of the invited players I believe the coaching team also saw this to be the case. A better defense, midfield, and offense, especially offense would make Ezenwa's job a lot easier.

Same size as Enyeama. Great reflexes and as far as I am concerned, on current form, he is Nigeria's best. Akpeyi is not better than him at all.

Does not spill the ball
Better reader
Better distributor
Better defense organizer
Better penalty saver
Battle tested

Only crime is that he is home based.

Ezenwa is OK, but he is certainly not the best in the NPFL or the best Nigerian keeper outside of the top 2.

The advantage he has is that he has been part of the SE setup and has put in steady shifts when given the opportunity.
