I don't agree with Rohr but I suspect this will be his XI
I am almost certain this will be his starting line-up against Croatia

Just for the record, this would be my preferred starting line-up:

Left to me, the only other two changes I would have made would have been Nwakali for Iwobi and Onyekuru for Iheanacho. I believe that is by far Nigeria's best starting 11.

We already know your lineup.
Re: I don't agree with Rohr but I suspect this will be his X
Rohr hasn't played Joel at left back in any friendly or scrimmage and he has seen them in training for weeks, so I'm sure he knows better.
Your first line up is the one I posted a while back and is very likely based on how Rohr thinks..The toss up might be starting with Etebo (he currently plays this position in Spain) in the Ogu position and Ogu coming on to see things out if we need to defend a slender lead.

After all these years when you were before your time, you are abandoning your 3-5-2? You know on CE, 3-5-2 is known as the Ayo formation?Ayo Akinfe wrote:I am almost certain this will be his starting line-up against Croatia

Anyway, we need more bodies in midfield.
What would your 3-5-2 formation look like?

He will almost certainly go for Ogu for three reasons:Mr Shows wrote:Rohr hasn't played Joel at left back in any friendly or scrimmage and he has seen them in training for weeks, so I'm sure he knows better.

[1] His physicality
[2] With Ogu he can change formation without changing personnel
[3] Ogu is good in the air and set pieces has been a recent problem

My 3-5-2, was built around Okocha. We do not have a playmaker of that mould today upon whoch I can base that formation. Give me Ozil, then yes, we are in business!
Re: I don't agree with Rohr but I suspect this will be his X
It's either Ogu starts and Etebo comes on at some point in the game... We are up against a very technical m/f, Ogu's stability is rock solid but may have mobility issues but he is a fighter.. I think this is the one spot that Rohr is mulling onAyo Akinfe wrote:He will almost certainly go for Ogu for three reasons:Mr Shows wrote:Rohr hasn't played Joel at left back in any friendly or scrimmage and he has seen them in training for weeks, so I'm sure he knows better.

It all depends on how the game is going. If we are defending a lead, Ogu will be maintained. If we are chasing a goal, Etebo will likely be brought in.
Re: I don't agree with Rohr but I suspect this will be his X
Rohr has not shown his cards but German he is and German's plan well. Here is his calculus:
1) First Half - Shut down at the back and attack off the counter.
2) Second Half - If scores are close bring in another explosive attacker to finish off Croatia. If Nigeria has a two goal advantage by 75th minute then protect the lead while subbing off key players.
First Half:
--- Ebuehi ------ Ekong --- Ogu --- Balogun --- Idowu ------
---------- Ndidi ------- Mikel ----- Etebo ---------------------
------------- Iheanacho -------------- Moses ----------------
Second Half if scores are close:
----- Ebuehi ----- Ekong ---- Ogu ---- Balogun ----- Idowu ----
------------- Ndidi ------- Mikel ----- Etebo ---------------------
----------- Iwobi ---------------------- Ighalo -------
Second Half if Nigeria is leading by more than 1 goal:
----- Ebuehi ------ Ekong ------- Balogun -------- Idowu --------
--------------- Ndidi ------------- Ogu ------------------------------
------- Iheanacho ------------- Iwobi ---------------- Moses ------
-------------------------- Ighalo ------------------------------------

Wouldn't you play it to accommodate Iwobi?Ayo Akinfe wrote:Cellular wrote:After all these years when you were before your time, you are abandoning your 3-5-2? You know on CE, 3-5-2 is known as the Ayo formation?Ayo Akinfe wrote:I am almost certain this will be his starting line-up against Croatia

Re: I don't agree with Rohr but I suspect this will be his X
Iwobi has had a good few games but I am not sold on him. He is not my type of creative playmaker. Besides, he gets outphysicalled too much for my liking.Cellular wrote:Wouldn't you play it to accommodate Iwobi?Ayo Akinfe wrote:Cellular wrote:After all these years when you were before your time, you are abandoning your 3-5-2?
