Yes, it was.vancity eagle wrote:I thought it was Iwobi who made that pass.DIMKA76 wrote:Mikel was instrumental in the only goal Nigeria scored against England. a looping pass to Igalo, which the latter crashed against the post for Iwobi to finish off. Mikel's speed has never been his strong point but even now it is now a significant negative factor.

Worth repeating. The YeyeMan wrote:I concur. I now think unless he plays/starts in a deeper role then his presence could prove detrimental to the team's shape and structure.txj wrote:While he is the major glue that holds the team together on and off the field, his powers have waned significantly compared to his Chelsea days, and in his current role on the field, he presents some serious problems...
The national team isn't the place for him to try and revisit his youth and what might have been.

Re: Nigeria's JMO-Sized Tactical Conundrum
Very instructive write up TJX. We really do have people here that think and provide analysis that offer food for thought (whether it turns out correct or incorrect). The assessment comes from a place of rigor and know how. The Mikel decision in my view was the most critical decision to the outcome of the Croatia game. I am convinced Rohr got it wrong. I am also convinced Rohr has taken about 4 players of "yesterday" to today's tournament. Yesterday's loss came down to Rohr (primarily).
I hope the part about how consequential the game against Croatia is turns out to be incorrect. keyword is hope as i cannot argue against the reasoning behind it.
