Benin expelled from 2018 WAFU U17 Championship over MRI failure – Oti Akenteng discloses
A member of the two-man CAF/FIFA Liaison Team, Oti Akenteng has revealed that the Black Starlets are the only team to successfully pass the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan ahead of the upcoming WAFU zonal qualifiers for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations tournament in Niger.

The Black Starlets are scheduled to compete in a seven-nation tournament which will run from 2-15 September 2018.

Ghana were the only team to have a successful passed the test, however, Benin have been expelled from the tournament after more than half of its players failed the test.

This means only six teams will compete in the tourney.

Ghana’s Group A opponents Niger and Togo had a player each fail the age-eligibility test.

Nigeria and Ivory Coast have their squad reduced after two players failed the test and have been sent home.

Group B opponent Burkina Faso had one player ejected from the squad.

In an interview with the Media Officer of the U17 Team, Martins Edward Odiasempa Kwame Oware, who doubles as the head of Sports for Happy FM, Mr Akenteng disclosed that it is only the two-time World Champions that went through the MRI test unscathed.

“It’s this that I had the official message from the General Secretary of the WAFU B Zone Mr. Akamalan and from the mail that I received and the letter that was given officially given to me meant that all our boys have gone through whiles a country like Benin is leaving the tournament zone because about ten of their players have been disqualified, and then other countries have also suffered one or two issues but it is only Ghana that went through with almost all the twenty players we presented,” Mr Akenteng revealed.

“Definitely you will it’s an achievement because this thing happened to us some time ago and if we haven’t learnt any lesson from that then it is a problem, so for me I think it’s a big achievement having gone through this one but all the same thank the Liaison Team that recommended to the Ministry of Sports that the players should be taken through the MRI two days to the time of the commencement of the tournament and the Ministry also listened and did it. Fortunately for us, this has contributed a lot in making sure that we passed the test.”

“We were so confident but you know this is a machine and anything can happen at anytime hence for us to have gone through the MRI without any blemish is an achievement. It’s a first victory for Ghana, we are only praying and hoping that it will be translated on the pitch for the actual tournament so that at least we will still be the leaders there.”

Host nation Niger and Togo will kick-off today at 3:00pm.

Republic of Benin Taunt Golden Eaglets: Your Boys Are Too Small, We'll Beat Them Silly

Republic of Benin Taunt Golden Eaglets: Your Boys Are Too Small, We'll Beat Them Silly
Republic of Benin have boasted that they will thrash the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria when they clash at the 2019 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations in Republic of the Niger.

The Benin U-17 players shared the same flight with the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria en route Niamey on Friday 31st August, 2018.

Though the Nigeria vs Republic of Benin game is the last fixture of Group B, Beninese FA Vice President Didavi Bruno could not hold back his excitement as he fired a salvo at the Nigerian contingent.

''We are on fire, your boys are too small, we will beat them silly. Your boys are small-small boys, we are pepper,'' the thick and roundly looking official boasted among other things.

Nigeria Golden Eaglets players and officials did not give a response but smiled while they seemed focused on their journey.

Meanwhile the Golden Eaglets are focused on winning their first game against Burkina Faso on Monday, September 3.

I agree with you. For instance, the kid on the extreme right, front row looks like that 14-year-old (Lawal Sule) we were raving about some months ago.

Yeah you are right. That is the 20 member Ghana U-17 black starlet team. They are the only team with 100% pass on CAF supervised MRI. The Togolese U-17 team also looks young as well. This is what MRI has done done to African Football. The current Golden Eaglet team in Niger has five of its players from the U-15 Future Eagles. Benin Republic officials described the Golden Eaglet team as too young for them, only for them to be disqualified. CAF really means business in stamping out age cheating at U-17. Whilst the MRI is not 100% perfect, however it has brought high level of decency in the U-17 competition, particularly in Africa which would benefit from it on the long run.

Clean Bill Of Health!!

  Indeed!
Starlets pass final MRI test - Benin, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire fail
After overcoming a major headache of seeing his charges correctly passed the Magnetic Resonance Imagining (MRI) test conducted by CAF, Black Starlets coach Karim Zito says he is now focused on the task ahead.
According to him the uncertainties of the outcome of the MRI scan scared his players ahead of their departure as they were not sure of what might have been the outcome of the CAF’s test.

“I am happy we all passed the MRI test”, the coach told Daily Graphic yesterday and revealed that Benin had been disqualified from the competition because 10 of their players failed the test.

The coach also disclosed that two players each from Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo who failed the test had been expelled from their respective teams.

So far, Ghana is the only country with a clean bill of health as all the players passed the test, the coach stated and was confident they would be ready for the competition come Wednesday.

Ghana was disqualified in 2015 from the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after some players failed the MRI scan

We have been brainwashed by the Premier League that it's the best in the world. Nonsense. It's the best brand
Roy Keane: ITV 02/25/14

He says that we are currently "brainwashed" into believing that the Premier League is the best competition in the world, and that we are now a long way off dominating the Champions League again.
Gary Neville: Mirror: 12/23/14

I think Spain’s by far the best league.
