0-0. Nigeria about 70% possession and majority of attempt at goal but woeful finishing

Re: U20 AFCON: RSA v NGA
Ends 0-0 South Africa ultra defensive sending 2 men up when it's their corner and 1 man in crowded Nigerian area when they had a free kick, the fear is real!

Re: U20 AFCON: RSA v NGA
Very poor offensive mindset.
Re: U20 AFCON: RSA v NGA
Disappointing performance, in spite of that Kenyan ref being bloody useless!
More troubling is the fact that, in the past 6 games we have played South Africa at all levels, we have lost 2 and drawn 4.
Hope the Eaglets will change this very poor trend and send Nigeria back to winning ways!

More to do with the mentality of their SA opponents. "We must not lose" mentality

A bit disappointing...
We could’ve qualified for the U20 World Cup with a victory today.
Group A standings going into the final group game vs hosts Niger Rep:
Nigeria......4pts (+2 GD)
Niger.........2pts (0 GD/4 GF)
SAfrica.......2pts (0 GD/1 GF)
Burundi......1pt (-2 GD/3 GF).

South Africa studied us and deployed a defensive strategy. Their goal was to get a draw at worst and possibly steal a win. They will now hope to beat Burundi knowing that the odds favor their qualification if they do.
Meanwhile, we'll need at least a point from our final game to qualify for the World Cup.

And considering the fact that the Nigeriens blew a 2 goal lead against the Burundians and had to settle for a draw, they will probably come after Nigeria with all guns blazing.
Nigeria should have won that game and taken the pressure off. Now, they have to not lose to the Nigeriens at home.

No doubt it would have been better to win and relax in the last game. However, the fact that Niger must win this game bodes well for us as it will be a more open game.
I think our problem is that we dominate teams in terms of possession, but we're not good at carving out chances to score. And this is where we've got to show improvement. Mind you, I think we'll get our fair share of chances against Niger because they will come out in attack mode, but in a normal game, where the opposition doesn't readily leave themselves open, we've got to show that we can create opportunities to score.

Poor decision-making, Lack of composure, Poor use of space...the list is endless...
Against a frightened SAfrica, our offense was a litany of hurried passes, atrocious shooting, and lack of guile...
We played the entire game like it was injury-time and we were chasing a goal-deficit...
However, this is not dissing the team, as they're still in development...

KPOM. In the game, you get an impression they were trying to smash the door when they needed to pick the lock. Their plan was to bludgeon SA into submissionFATHER TIKO wrote:We're poor in the final third:mystic wrote:Otitokoro wrote:And considering the fact that the Nigeriens blew a 2 goal lead against the Burundians and had to settle for a draw, they will probably come after Nigeria with all guns blazing.

Congrats to the Senegalese U20 team for being the first African side to quality for the World Cup.
They sure looked the part, considering the ease with which they took the Ghanaians apart.
They sure look like the best team in the tournament so far.

At this level the talent differences is negligible save for one or two players. What you do then is to create physical mismatches to your advantage in key areas (like what the New England Patriots do in the NFL). The South Africans tend to be skinny and small then put big strikers to occupy their defenders. Also use big midfielders with tree trunk legs to make them fear leg a little. With this skinny players their are no difference btw Nigeria and South Africa and if the team makes it to the WYC, they will be sent home by more robust teams like Germany, France, and England. West Africans should look west African like how the Niger players look, contact sports favors the taller, bigger, and stronger players more often than not.
