duh!!! we've won gold silver and bronze in football...no one takes u23 seriously except people like youDamunk wrote:Does anyone share this sneaky feeling of mine that Olympic 'soccer' has somehow lost some of its appeal?
Or maybe we've simply 'been there, done that, worn the gold medal' and are looking at the real deal WC?
I'm just struggling to get excited about the Olympic soccer like I used to back then.

To me it's nothing more than an opportunity for player exposure. The Nigerian in me means I will root for them during matches but once it's over, I couldn't care less if they win or lose.
The Super Eagles is where it's at.

Re: OLYMPIC EAGLES (U23) Continue Preparations.....
I read a match report on the first leg saying Awoniyi was missing chances left and right!
To make matters worse, David Okereke, Osimhen and Success are all unavailable.
Where will the goals come from today? I am very, very worried.

The problem is most European teams refuse to release their best players for the Olympics. With the exception of Brazil at the last Olympics most of the teams, Nigeria including had several star players missing.

They have NO choice with the Olympics as it’s a FIFA event...olu wrote:The problem is most European teams refuse to release their best players for the Olympics. With the exception of Brazil at the last Olympics most of the teams, Nigeria including had several star players missing.
As Barcelona learnt when it tried to preclude Messi from the 2008 Olympics.
It’s the qualifiers that clubs are not required to release players...
However CAF tried to get around that by scheduling this last round in a FIFA Window.

Re: OLYMPIC EAGLES (U23) Continue Preparations.....
So in 2 legs against "mighty" Sudan, Awoniyi could only score once?
If all eligible players are available, no way he makes the Olympics.

That was in the past, Clubs can now withhold players from the Olympics. FIFA no longer enforces clubs to release players for the Olympics.Gotti wrote:They have NO choice with the Olympics as it’s a FIFA event...olu wrote:The problem is most European teams refuse to release their best players for the Olympics. Especially as the guy he's been rubbishing Awoniyi for has been even less impressive.Otitokoro wrote:Can't believe you're still on this, dude.

He may not start, but should make the squad. If we qualify the 4 strikers that may be selected could be Osimhen, Okereke, Awoniyi, and possibly Sanusi (top scorer in the NPFL).

Osimhem should already be an established top class striker by then, no need to include him. I don’t know why we feel we have to every developmental tournament. Regular members of SE should be excluded.
OCCUPY NFF!!
