Enyimba, Rangers International in tough groups against North African opponents

Group Stage matches to commence on December 1.
The Nigerian sides will spend most of their group campaigns in North Africa

Enyimba’s bid to reclaim glory in Africa will face a stern challenge from Algeria’s Paradou AC and Moroccan side Hassania US Agadir after they were drawn in Group D of the Caf Confederation Cup on Tuesday. The Peoples’ Elephant will also face San Pedro of the Ivory Coast in their group.
Having last tasted continental glory in 2004 when they bagged the Caf Champions League, Enyimba have struggled to replicate that feat in Africa. They now have to navigate past fellow West Africans San Pedro and also deal with the North African duo of Paradou and Hassania Agadir for a continental title.

Also seized with North African opponents are Enugu Rangers who were drawn in Group A where they will travel to Egypt twice to face Pyramids and El Masry. They also face Nouadhibou of Mauritania who are making their debut in the Caf Confederation Cup group stages. Rangers might fancy their chances of topping this group against their opponents who have all not won continental silverware.

The Caf Confederation Cup draw also saw South African side Bidvest Wits being pooled in Group B where they will come up against Djoliba of Mali, Guinean heavyweights Horoya and El Nasr of Libya. It is the first time for Wits to participate in the Caf Confederation Cup group phase and the South Africans might want to make a statement given their superior financial standing against their opponents.

In Group C, last season’s losing finalists RS Berkane will clash with Zambian giants Zanaco as well as DR Congo side Daring Club Motema Pembe. ESAE FC from Benin complete this group and the Caf Confederation Cup group stage matches commence on December 1.

Did Kenya choose not to enter any teams into African competitions this year? :???:

PS: And where is Rawlings to open a thread on the nonexistent Ghanaian clubs in African competition?

Enugu Rangers cry out over CAF Confederation Cup kick-off time
Enugu Rangers have protested to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the early kick-off of their Confederation Cup Group A home games, saying it will affect their performance as well as gate takings from the matches.
Rangers general manager Davidson Owumi said in an appeal letter to CAF that playing on an artificial pitch under high temperatures will be “punishing” for his team.
“We understand and appreciate the fact that CAF reserves the right to fix time for matches from the group stage of the club competition but we find it extremely difficult to factor in the 14.00 hours (2.00 pm) time it has picked for us due largely to the humidity of the season,” Owumi argued in the correspondence.

“Playing our scheduled matches at the time fixed will lead to loss of revenue, punishment for the players, who are the main actors on the pitch, and the spectators that would be sun-baked if they turn up for the matches with temperatures reaching as high as 40 degrees centigrade on an artificial field.”
He therefore suggested a later kick-off time of 4pm local time.
Rangers will play host to Egyptian club Pyramid in their first group game of the CAF Confederation Cup at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday, December 1.
They are also drawn against another Egyptian club Al Masry as well as FC Nouadhibou from Mauritania.
