Post by Rawlings »

Mohammed Salisu in top shape for Southampton EPL opener against Crystal Palace
New signing Mohammed Salisu is preparing for the start of the 2020/21 English Premier League season with Southampton.
The 20-year-old centre back showed a lot of promise last season in the Spanish La Liga with Real Valladolid.
Salisu signed a four-year contract worth £10.9 million.
On Tuesday, 8 September 2020, he was spotted at the club's training ground, Staplewood Campus in Marchwood, Hampshire.
Salisu is expected to make the match day squad on Saturday, 12 September, when the Saints travel to Crystal Palace for their season opener.

Sept. 1 Manchester United should keep a close eye on Salisu's progress as he follows Van Dijk's path
Manchester United may not have signed Mohammed Salisu this summer, but that does not mean they should forget about him altogether.
Prior to his £10.9million switch to Southampton (Sky Sports), the centre-back was linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Given his fine form in La Liga last season, the rumour was an exciting one. But, despite ESPN claiming United had enquired about the defender, he ended up not in Manchester but on the south coast.

Wolves, Southampton, and Watford battling over Mohammed Salisu

Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu has captured the attention of many clubs in the world with his scintillating LaLiga performances this season.

Of course, in addition to being a top centre-back at the young age of 21, the player has a meagre £10m release clause, meaning it’s basically certain the player will be leaving this summer.

According to Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Wolves and Southampton are currently showing the most interest in the Ghanaian, with Watford also reportedly keen on the starlet.

Salisu’s rise to prominence has been rapid, to say the least, as he’s only been playing professional first-team football for just over a year.

Salisu, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, has made a total of 30 career first-team appearances to date.

Rennes agree €12m fee with Real Valladolid for Mohammed Salisu

RMC Sport report this afternoon that Ligue 1 side Rennes have today struck an agreement with Spanish side Real Valladolid worth €12m including bonuses for 21-year-old Ghanaian central defender Mohammed Salisu.

It is currently unclear whether SRFC have merely activated the player’s release clause, which stood at €12m, or if they have negotiated a slightly lower or more tranched arrangement with the La Liga club.

The Brittany side must now find an arrangement with the player to convince him to come – Premier League side Southampton are notably very interested in his services.

Salisu: Real Valladolid's Rising Ghanaian Star

Although he didn't know it at the time, March 2017 was a momentous month in the career of Mohammed Salisu, the Ghanaian centre-back who is now interesting many of the world's biggest clubs.

In the town of Nsawam, south Ghana, the African Talent Football Academy (ATFA) first began operating, coaching hopeful young footballers who dreamed of a career in Europe.

With a brand new facility – comprising of pitches and a club house that included a common area, dining space and accommodation – and connections to European clubs, the ATFA began to mark itself as potential gateway for Ghanaian youngsters chasing a better future.

Just six months after opening, the ATFA had its trailblazer, their first 'graduate'. Director Fran Castano travelled with one teenager to Spain.

Salisu was signed then and there – his journey to the top had begun.
