Osimhen as a record signing gives me hope as a Nigerian
Seriously I haven't felt this excited about a player until now... let it sink in for a moment guys, a top club signing of 81.3m pounds plus bonuses for a Nigerian player? wake me up please, when last did a Nigerian player ever make a record breaking signing like this? major credit has to go to Amunike for really believing in and grooming these guys (I remember Osimhen attributing a great deal of his success to Amunike). Hopefully we learn from this and realize there are no short cuts to long term rewards, and Osimhen more than deserves all the accolades for working so hard to get to where he is now... the kid went through a lot.
Wolfsburg surely took a big L on this one, imagine getting rid of a player for cheap because you had no faith in him(even though the better part of his playing career was marred with injuries), only for him to become a record signing few years later.
I'm officially a Napoli fan, I wish you the best in your career and seasons ahead in Napoli Victor!

That's some serious serious hammering for Lille and for Osihmen. The wolfburg manager who decided to loan him out should be flogged and walked to city limits by the sheriff Never to come back again.
OCCUPY NFF!!

Gattuso saw something in the boy. Maybe they are kindred spirits. Gattuso was a battler during his playing days with Milan. Osihmen is a battling striker.
Being successful in Italy is not a given. They have the stingiest defenders. Its not going to be easy for our boy.

Italy used to be known for its defensive qualities and taught the world the art of defending. Gentile, Bergomi, Scirea, Cabrini, Maldini....the list is endless. But that is going back 30, 40 years.kali wrote:Gattuso saw something in the boy. Maybe they are kindred spirits. Gattuso was a battler during his playing days with Juve. I am not sure it still applies today.
I doubt there is any statistical evidence in the modern game to support this long-standing belief that they still give the world a masterclass in defending even though, like most top nations, they still produce top defenders.

With the top scorers hitting 30 plus regularly , doubt the defence still stingy.Damunk wrote:Italy used to be known for its defensive qualities and taught the world the art of defending. Chris Smalling has been reincarnated as Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto in Italy.

Exactly my point! Very easy to do that when you are playing behind two out of very good 3 DM's in Diawara, Veretout and Cristante; as well as in a 3-4-2-1 defensive system that provides defensive stability.kalani JR wrote:Chris Smalling has been reincarnated as Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto in Italy.
We all saw Maguire at Leicester and we have all seen what happened to him when he played a year being shielded by Matic.
P,s-- Roma finished 5th in Serie A. Franz Beckenbauer OR Carlos Alberto, not to speak of a mixture of both would have led their team to the apex.

There are probably others like Osimhen also but you can't find them if you limit your search to Europe because they live in Nigeria.

Bell,
Such players are no longer grown in Nigeria. After all, they did not receive the almighty tutoring from European academies. You should know that by now. How can a guy tutored by some "moi-moi" Lagos coach in Ajegunle be better than a guy who went through Arsenal academy under certified UEFA coaches?
