I can understand G4L's perspective on this as the Lampard example head to head with Darren Moore is not a very good example.

His appointment fits into the pattern of club legends being appointed as coaches, just like Pirlo at Juve and Zidane before him at Madrid, and sooner or later Xavi at Barca...

And b/c of that, will always be used as justification for his appointment.

However, it is an example of white privilege, yes absolutely. And it would be foolhardy to mount any defence on his behalf...

But many of these are also examples of the old boy network at work in football.

Liverpool just appointed Gary O'Neill as U-23 assistant. His appointment was championed by Micheal Edwards, LFC Director of Football, who was mates with him at Portsmouth...

These old boy networks in football sadly are all too often laced with racism and White privilege.

My point was clear wrt this matter. Being white is an advantage but does the singular consideration of skin color equate racism? No it does not.

Lampard is a Chelsea legend who has a good relationship with the management/owner and the fans. This is not unlike the following inexperienced former players who got big jobs in recent times - to mention a few:
1. Pep at Barca (only prior work was Barca B)
2. Zidane at Real Madrid (only prior work was Real Madrid B)
3. Pirlo at Juventus (only prior work was ONE MONTH of Juventus u23! )
4. Arteta at Arsenal (NEVER Managed any club prior to Arsenal - only an assistant was his prior experience).

Yet, no one complained about racism, etc, etc while this was going on.But suddenly, folks remember that black coaches lives matter when Chelsea appoints Lampard as a manager and its not obvious hypocrisy? Really?

The reason they complain is because while these great men, Pep, Zidane, Pirlo and Arteta came in, kept quiet and did their job, Chewing Gum face went to the press, opened his smelly mouth and exposed his racism. Have you forgotten that????!!!!!

Pep has won leagues and CL up and down! Zidane has done the same up and down, breaking records, Arteta, as assistant has won trophies up and down. Lumpard has won nothing! He has been humiliated up and down by different exotic men and yet he opened his rotten mouth and exposed himself as a racist.

My brother, you should listen to what these people are telling you. OJ Simpson also thought they loved him, until he was cut up like goat meat.

Keep making up stories to justify your hypocrisy. They are all white men who got jobs which their CVs did not qualify them for yet it's ok for Pep, Zidane, Pirlo & Arteta but a racism influenced appointment for Lampard.

Their utterance or lack thereof and trophies won are irrelevant to this discussion.

Is it also irrelevant that the racist lumpard made those white privileged racist comments? or nah?

And Pep, Arteta and Pirlo are brown men, and so is Zidane (Algerian). The only white man here is the white privileged English Lumpard.

Belgium's Standard Liege on Wednesday named Senegalese Mbaye Leye as their new coach in a major breakthrough for Africans seeking opportunity at top clubs in Europe.
The 38-year-old, who previously played at the club and worked as an assistant coach, takes over from Philippe Montanier. He has signed a deal to the end of the 2020-21 campaign, the club said in a brief statement.

Leye, who won three caps for Senegal in 2008, moved from west Africa as a teenager to play in France but spent most of his career in Belgium, eventually retiring two seasons ago.




The former striker was hired to work under Michel Preud'homme at Standard with a view to eventually taking over as coach. However, when Preud'homme left earlier than expected in June, club management hesitated to promote Leye and chose former France under-20 coach Montanier instead.
But Montanier was fired at the weekend after 28 games in charge with Standard in 11th place in the first division standings. They will be seeking to end a run of four successive defeats when they play their next game at home to Waasland Beveren on January 11.
Leye is only the third African international to have coached a top division club in Europe.
Angolan international Lito Vidigal has had a fruitful career in Portugal, taking charge of clubs like Belenenses, Boavista, Vitoria Setubal and, until the start of this month, Maritimo. He also worked at Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel and in Cyprus.
Last season, ex-Nigeria goalkeeper Ndubuisi Egbo took KF Tirana to the title in Albania and a place in the early rounds of this season's Champions League.

Other higher profile African internationals to have flirted with top jobs include Nigerian midfielder international Sunday Oliseh, who had Fortuna Sittard top of the Dutch second division in early 2018 but then abruptly left after a fall out with management.
Omar Daf, who played full back for Senegal at the 2002 World Cup, is coach of French Ligue 2 club Sochaux.
