Man United got Real Sociedad for the Europa knockout stages.

Sociedad are doing well in La Liga.
Another chance to see Ole at work.
Maybe being knocked out might be a good thing so that Ole can have a proper go at the league

Man Utd do not have a good recent record against Spanish teams: Celta Vigo, Sevilla, Barcelona...

The key question being: is this Man United ready to chase down the log leaders, dooes it have that mentality.

But they always give away an easy goal or two in the first half, so they might squander that game in hand

Speaking of the defence, Lindelof still looks suspect. He is almost in the team by default as Tuanzebe, Bailly, and Phil Jones cannot stay fit. Those three have played about 5 games between them in the past 18 months. How on earth do they get injured whilst not playing?!

Is it worth giving Mark Red another go? The Telles signing was odd given that Shaw (admittedly injury prone too) and Williams were available and already in the team.

Williams is Wan Bissaka's backup but versatile enough to also handle the left side though with some measure of discomfort. Telles is a great addition and gradually settling down to the EPL, not typically easy for most Brazilians. He adds a lot to the team offensively and quite decent when defending - his excellent delivery of crosses will come in handy as he settles into the team.

...but Williams was playing at LB last season, not RB. Man Utd needed a new FB this summer. However his name was Hakimi, not Telles. Hakimi would have solved three problems for Man U: (1) RB (2) LB (3) An attacking FB. He can do all three.

...remember united loses or concedes to minnows easily, and if you get a well oiled minnow they will score and sit back for 90 mins.

I predict that someday someone is going to haul Bielsa to an international court for crimes against safety in tactics...

Before this season is over, somebody will put 10 goals past Leeds...
Form is temporary; Class is Permanent!
Liverpool, European Champions 2005.

We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp
