As a Leeds fan I am used to box-to-box attacks in under 60s
(1) As one of Marcelo Bielsa’s disciples, I passionately believe in the swift counter-attack
(2) In the modern game, getting the ball from one penalty area to the other in under a minute is what makes your counter-attacks ruthless
(3) At the moment, only Bielsa plays this to perfection in the English Premier League
(4) The last team to play this way in England was Arsene Wenger’s invincibles. They used to win the league back in those days but today, Mikel Arteta’s pedestrian team take 10 minutes to mount counter-attacks, which is why they do not look like they can win the league in a thousand years
(5) Looking at the Super Eagles yesterday, who else noticed that it took them 45 minutes to move the ball from one penalty area to the other?
(6) I cannot remember the last time I saw such a sluggish and pedestrian Nigerian team
(7) Nigerian football is founded on pace, swift counter-attacks and flair. Yesterday, we were a team of lumberjacks
(8) Gernot Rohr desperately needs to find ways to inject some pace into this team
(9) For now, all I can think of is if we have Samuel Kalu, Ebere Eze and Ademola Lookman in the team it will make a huge difference
(10) We also need ball playing centrebacks who can bring the ball out of defence. Were I in Rohr’s shoes, my starting two centrebacks would be Awaziem and Adarabioyo

To me, if we want to play swift, counter-attacking football, our starting 11 will have to look something like this:
4-3-3:
Okoye
Ebuehi
Sanusi
Awaziem
Akpoguma(We ultimately need Adarabioyo)
Ndidi
Aribo
Iwobi (We ultimately need Ebere)
Onyekuru (We ultimately need Lookman)
Osimhen
Kalu

Just imagine Balogun and Ekong having to deal with a high press. Can you just envisage how many goals we would concede if they had to play the ball out from the back under pressure.

As a Leeds fan, what you're used to is 3rd division football.

But I agree with Ayo.
That swift counterattacking football is what we love and crave for.

Hard to counter attack when a team parks the bus.

Play like Leeds and concede loads of goals as well.

Bielsa's message is simple - When a team does that, make sure you effectively counter their own counter-attacks whenever they break out.

Serves the boy right. He would have shone like a thousand stars in Porto Novo but he made his choice!Enyi wrote:Ayo....no Nwakali in ur line up...? It is now Eze? You spend 16 years in the bush of lower leagues and you finally arrive in the city called Premier League. Less than 7 months in the city and you're using "What I'm used to".? Less of thatDamunk wrote:pajimoh wrote:As a Leeds fan, what you're used to is 3rd division football.

To make matters worse, the passes are sideways. It is not as if they are picking out Osimhen's runs.

Leeds? the last time Leeds were relevant, Ohsee was still a fine young village boy doing boyoyo with his afro and bongo trousers while fixing rendezvous appointments to meet his heart-throb sweetheart under the Udala tree at night!
