THE RISE AND THE FALLING OF ARSENAL BEGINS.

What happen to oh oh Vieira Anthem of last season??????

Vieira on verge of switch to Juve

I felt it was time for me to have a new challenge

Patrick Vieira
Patrick Vieira's career statistics
Arsenal have confirmed that they have accepted Juventus' £13.75m offer for their skipper Patrick Vieira.
The 29-year-old French international midfielder is now discussing personal terms with the Italian side.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told their website: "I share the sadness with our supporters that Patrick has left us.

"But on the other hand I would say to them 'trust us and support us'. The sad thing is he leaves us, but the good thing is that he leaves us on a high."

He added: "Patrick was a great player for us, one of the greatest in the club's history and I feel I had a special relationship with him because I made him come here.

"I think his impact, not only at Arsenal but in English football overall, was just tremendous."

Vieira, who was Wenger's first signing in 1996, has flown to Turin and will undergo a medical on Friday.

He said: "When you spend nine years at the club, like I did, it is a difficult decision to leave.

"But in the end you have to make a choice for your future. It was a very difficult decision, but I am happy with it.

"I made the decision to leave because I felt it was time for me to have a new challenge. But that does not mean I was unhappy or that I was having a problem at Arsenal.

"It was just that I had the feeling I needed to grow and meet a new challenge, and I feel Juventus was the best challenge for me.

"I'd like to thank the Arsenal fans. They have been fabulous.

"Even recently in the street they were saying 'if you are going, then thanks for the last nine years'. That is really touching and it makes me feel that I gave my best for the club.

"I can go with my head held high. I did my best every day in training and in every match, and I left shaking the hand of Arsene Wenger and Mr (David) Dein. That was really important to me."

Remember what they said when we sold Overmars, Petit and Anelka. I laugh at all of you who question the judgement of Wenger. Just seat back and watch his magic.

Exactly

It's not like this is the first time Wenger has silently retooled his squad.

Back when he first arrived in 96 the core was TA, Bould, Dixion, Seamo, Wright, Razor, DB 10 etc etc etc and he brought in the likes of PV4, Petit, Overmars and Anelka and we won the double and had a good run but around 1999 AW knew he needed to retool and he cashed in on the likes of Anelka, Petit, Silvinho and Overmars for various reasons.

In a six year span the likes of TA, Dixon, Bould, Wright, Petit, Overmars, Anelka, Seamo and co were replaced by Ashley Cole, Freddie Ljungberg, Pires, Henry, Kanu, Wiltord, Sol Campbell, Lauren, Edu, Gilberto and the remaining core was PV4, Razor, Seamo, DB 10 and Keown.

All total we had a great run i.e another double, a league and two more FA Cups.

Again could be the sleep deprivation talking but it seems under our very noises AW is rebuilding again

OUT: are Razor, Keown, Kanu, Seamo, Wiltord, Edu and soon to follow Ljungberg, PV4, Pires and DB 10.

IN: Reyes, RVP, Flamini, Fab, Kolo, Senderos, Hleb, Clichy, Eboue, Quincy and possible SWP and Diarra.

The new core of veterans will be Henry, Campbell, Gilberto, Ashley Cole, Lauren and Jens.

All the nonsense that Wenger has lost the plot is just envy, please just wait and see before making outrageous claims.

What makes u so adamant that Vieira's departure will signal the demise of Arsenal as a premiership force? We are rebuilding, the old formula has gone as far as it can, and its time for the fully fed bellies, to be replaced by hungry appetites! Vieira was a great captain and leader, and really imposed himself on the game, but whats to say Arsenal cant find such qualities in another player? whats to say that Arsene may opt for an alternative approach? I dont believe Wenger would cut off his nose to spite his face, and thus the transfer represents good business for Arsenal. Vieira is not as marketable as Beckham, so its not like we'd be missing out on commercial revenue, what we have done is got a sizeable amount for a player in the latter stages of his career, thats not to say that Vieira is a spent force, but 9 years at a club is a long time, and i dont think he's going to get better, or give any more than he has given already.

...I'd like to see take a different approach to games, even change things around tactically, and perhaps Wenger's seeing things similarly. The pairing of Paddy and Gilby, though imposing did not create the most, nor convert the most. Cesc was moved into the middle to add a little more creativity, but with him and Paddy both striding forward, the pairing didnt prove so fruitful defensively. The signing of Hleb, who i presume is going to play centre mid, mandates that Wenger plays with a holder, someone who can shield the backline ala Makalele, Vieira is not that type of player, and asking that of him, would be to inhibit his natural style of play.

...Wenger's no mug, he knows his football, and best of all, he knows premiership football, u only need look at his record. It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds, but i, and i dont think anybody can, question the competence of a man whose brought unrivalled success to Arsenal!

Just like they did when we sold Overmars, Petit and Anelka. Arsenal will come back stronger and better. Of that, I have no doubt. You guys just watch.

Gunners please don't be afraid of change, it will do us good, i am certain of it. WE PLAYED SOME INSPIRING FOOTBALL last season without paddy, it's a big loss any way but not the end of the road like some people are predicting, there will be some excellent impact players coming in soon, we will be fine. This was surely a business decison, and the desire for paddy to experience something different, we will forever appreciate paddy for his dedication to the club, but it's time for him to move on. Last season we scored more goals than chealsea, but lost our title because of our erratic defense, fix the defense, and add another quality midfielder, plus SWP, and we will be challenging again, to paddy, i say thanks for the special memories of 9 solid years, to gunners fans, i say the best is yet to come, and to the rest of the premiership, i say be very afraid, the wind of change will blow you away.

I also believe AW thinks Arsenal must change it's style, as teams are begining to get use to our 100 MPH F1 style.

I think AW wants to play more like AC Milan. more emphasis on possesion and passing rather than speed and first touch.

IMO AW knows particularly in Europe and in the English winter our wings are shut down on the defencive front and attacked offensively i.e Man Utd games.

We need more variety and he's taking steps to insure we raise our game to another level and he will succeed have no doubts about that.

AW first generation won a double

His second won another double, two more FA Cup's and a record setting EPL unbeaten champs.

Now his third will take it to the next level.

Simple

Arse is done for 2005/2006. 3rd place will be an achievement for the Highbury guys.

Judging by the # of Vieira threads, I guess a bunch of you are Gooners. Note to self: stay away from CE when Utd beat Arse. :)

Did Manure not beat Arsenal twice last season with Vieira in the team? So what is your point?

Reading the article by Marcotti combined wages and fee Arsenal save close to 25 MP and that's is on top of the 20-25 MP they have left.

All total we have 45-50 MP so more more excuses we just sold ONE OF THE GREATEST GUNNERS IN HISTORY!

Arsenal owes us Gooners a very big summer, so let us go out and get SWP, Diarra, Baptista and a CB.

I think Arsenal just use players and dump them, they treat them like an Object. I don't see why Cole should remain in Arsenal if he got a better offer he better go for it now. Henry will be dumped as soon as he stop scoring goals, they will offload him before his value start to go down.

TG, unless Wenger is a magician, I don't see how he plans to stretch his budget to fit those players. Half of the budget is going to SWP (heck, chelsea will drive up the price for the heck of it by 'making inquiries').... Diarra will consume 10MP ... Baptista is a big money player as well... wenger's last offer was already turned down... he will cost between 15MP to under 20MP.... meanwhile, you have not bought the quality CD you need. Senderous is good, but will he hold up for the season?... too many question marks.

Baptista is no more the 10 MP and Diaraa really depends on what happens with Essiensas Lyon will not sale both.

As for SWP we have the money and it's up the Boss if he wants to use.

.. and what about Chelsea? Do you honestly think that Mourihno will sit back and let Arsenal buy all the players they want? Think again. Even Mourihno has said that he'll go after a player just to keep the player away from his competitor. It's one of his fundamental policies.

Chelsea will be a factor no doubt about it but at the moment their focus is 100% on Essien, also we know money wise Chelsea can always out bid us but club wise really no comparison as one we have class and history and secondly players know on Arsenal they will play.

Only time will tell.
