You think so? I don't know many fans/coaches that would trade Essien for any other defensive midfielder on Earth. I think he is more important to Ghana than Appiah. Ghana has the strongest midfield in the competition. Essien's workrate is frightening. They won't win the tournament though. The workah...

Ghana has the strongest midfield in the competition. Essien's workrate is frightening. They won't win the tournament though. The workaholic all action style of their midfield means they will inevitably get suspensions later on in the tournament.

Re: Am I the only one that is afraid?

Osa, don't mind them. Ivory Coast are the strongest team in the competition. A lot of the guys harping about how CIV will "hia when" are the same guys who thought a world cup team with Efe Sodje, Ikedia and Ogbeche could beat Argentina, and who thought Ogbeche was the second coming of Pele...

Idi, you are right. These days modern training is not about mindless running with the ball. Most modern training routines involve programmes that encourage players to think laterally and be creative. At a high level modern "training" might involve sitting in a studio watching videos of the...

Ohenhen, there are lots of talented players in the NPL: mostly strikers and midfielders. Most of the defenders and GKs are tactically inept (and that's me being restrained). Enyimba's squad of 2003-2004 had about 7-8 players that were SE standard.

Casillas is one of the most overrated GKs on Earth. He never makes me comfortable with his propensity to punch and flap rather than catch.

Ivory Coast have the best squad on paper. If they don't win, they have only themselves to blame.

Don't listen to the Chelsea fans and BBC pundits who claim Cech is the current best in the world. Buffon is THE man right now.

Kahn is not even as good as Schmeichel! Between 1993 and 1999, Schmeichel was the baddest GK on the planet, no exception.

I concur. Roy Keane was not the most talented player in a Man U squad packed with superstars over the years like Cantona, Giggs, Kanchelskis, Veron, Ronaldo, Beckham and Van Nisteelrooy. Yet he was the most effective and influential of the lot. All things being equal, I will take a committed player ...

What the amateur coaches on here need to understand is that most of the other strikers in the squad are slick speedsters that are best with the ball at their feet but carry zero aerial threat. Makinwa may not have the best technique or be the best with the ball at his feet, but he has qualities the ...

In the last few years they've had Ejide, Obiakor, Opara and Ogunbiyi (dual Benin/Nigerian citizen).
I think Ogunbiyi is the only one still there.
