Dolphin’s Ezeji eyes league shield

Ajibade Olusesan

Dolphin Football Club of Port-Harcourt striker, Victor Ezeji, has said no club will stand between his club and their resolution to win the Premier League this season.

The former Enyimba hit man who said this in a chat with our correspondent in Lagos on Wednesday said his team had all it takes to emerge champions at the end of the season.

“I know it is not easy to climb up but it is much more difficult to stay up there. We are trying to do everything humanly possible to make sure we consolidate on our successes so far,” he said.

When asked if he was also gunning for individual award this season, the current joint top scorer in the league said he wanted to emerge the highest goal scorer at the end of the season.

Ezeji emerged joint top scorer in the 2001/2002 season with the then Elkenemi Warriors’ striker, Ghanaian Joatex Frimpong.

“Yes I want to be the highest goal scorer but the ultimate thing is to win the league. I cannot allow individual quest to override the ambition of the club. If I score good and if I don’t no problem,” he said.

Reflecting on the national U-23 team’s loss to Tunisia in an Olympic qualifier played in Tunis, Ezeji blamed the ouster on bad luck.

He believed the team had a good game against the Junior Carthage Eagles but ill luck denied them victory.

“We had our chances to score but we failed to utilise them. We played a better game there. I believe it’s hard luck we did not win the match,” he said.

He defended the coach, Mr. Kadiri Ikhana, against the allegation of making use of players that were not fit for the match, saying that it did not happened in Tunisia.

“Ikhana is a good coach and he knows what is good for the team. What journalists wrote did not happen. Ikhana did his best, used the best players for the match. We could have won the game, but, like l said, luck was against us. Apart from that, nothing happened,” Ezeji explained.
