I would play Efe Ambrose in the Mikel role...
Guys, after having watched Efe many times for both club and country, and havig also watched Mikel struggle in this WC, if I were coach, I would play Efe in the Mikel role.
I keep my centerback pairing of Yobo and Omeruo. A healthy Oboabona takes over at RB, and Efe, Onazi, and Azeez form the middle trio (Nosa would have been nice, but no crying over spilled milk).
Efe is faster than mikel. He is a better ball player than Mikel. His confidence on the ball is outstanding and he will move the ball up the field quicker than Mikel. There will be no useless "sheilding" or "bigmanism" with Efe. He gets the ball, and he only thinks ONE thing....FORWARD!!! Azzez and Onazi will provide cover.
I think this would work. Just my 2 cents.

Re: I would play Efe Ambrose in the Mikel role...
Ambrose has more confidence on the ball, than any other Nigerian defender!
Yobo has not had that kind of confidence in YEARS!
This guy has skills! He reminds me of David Luiz! In that he is really a CB or Midfielder.
The right back thing is really not his calling. I even went as far saying that he can dribble better than some Nigerian forwards! And I am not even exaggerating! I have seen him beat his man...time and time and time and time again! Not just for Nigeria but even for Celtic!
I do not know about the Mikel role....but he is definitely a midfielder in my books. Midfielder or CB. It is not even to say that he is not a decent wingback...but defensively...he cannot hack it, that is the issue! Offensively, I do not really have too much of an issue. He can cross better than Echiejile and Oshaniwa...he is also more potent! But playing as a fullback requires great positional awareness and concentration! He often gets caught out of position or loses his concentration!

Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

My brother,
It is too late to experiment. Mikel has to wake up from his slumber.
I think he is trying to force things from deep. Looking for the outstanding pass and not trusting his teammates....sometimes he just needs to keep it simple.

He needs to wake up and realize this is not a battle of the tortoises. No snails came out to play ball.

I do agree, Mikel is not it this time around.

Anyone thinking that maybe opponents have game planned for Mikel ?

The Nigeria game that relies on the pace of its forward men, Mikel just ends up slowing the game down for no reason, what needs a quick release of the ball like he did at under 20 level, This is not Chelsea, he needs to get his mindset from there, just hope Mikel proves everyone wrong against France including myself! he has the ability to, its a knockout phase, no 2nd chances or you out
So angry Nigeria got kicked out of the world cup once again, i nearly told my wife that i caught my girlfriend with another man today!

Efe played Defensive midfield for Siasia's team in Beijing, especially against a supposedly more talented Ivorian side. It was a clean sweep by Siasia's boys - 2 zip.
Are you saying that things you do not know, do not exist, just because you do not know that they exist?

Tbite - I actually think this a very good idea. Something worth trying. Try for 20 mins and if it doesn't work or doesn't look to have promise then go back to status quo. I really like your contribtions and some points you make. I see that they're well thought through.

So who will it be?

Re: I would play Efe Ambrose in the Mikel role...
this is actually a good idea because efe actually drives the ball forward better and faster. I doubt keshi will do that.If Mikel gets injured then what???

Worth considering. We need a Plan B for if JMO doesn't wake up.
