2015 Nations Cup: Equatorial Guinea to host tournament

Equatorial Guinea have been named as the hosts for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed to the BBC.
Caf selected a replacement for Morocco after rejecting their request to delay the 17 January to 8 February finals.
Morocco were concerned over the spread of the outbreak of the Ebola virus.
Caf subsequently expelled Morocco from the relocated tournament, which will now be held in the country which co-hosted with Gabon in 2012.
Confederation of African Football's Junior Binyam told the BBC they have "no doubt" that it will be "a beautiful tournament" and one "up to the same standards of what we've seen in past years".
Equatorial Guinea will now take on sole responsibility for holding the 16-team event.
Caf said the decision was made after a meeting in Malabo on Friday between Equatorial Guinea's president Teodoro Obiang and Caf president Issa Hayatou.
African football's governing body also announced that Equatorial Guinea will play in the tournament - despite the team being disqualified in July for fielding an ineligible player in a preliminary qualifier against Mauritania on 17 May.
Hayatou said in a statement: "The head of state of Equatorial Guinea agreed to host the competition.
"As a result, the Caf executive committee confirms that the tournament will go ahead and Equatorial Guinea will compete as the host nation.
"Caf wishes to express its sincere thanks to the Equatorial Guinean people, its government and particularly president Obiang."
Matches will be held at four venues in Bata, Ebebiyin, Mongomo and the capital Malabo. In 2012, only Malabo and Bata were used.
The draw for the finals will be in Malabo on 3 December.

In this case, how did we do that?

The problems will be hotels.. The two new cities do not have enough good hotels to take care of the massive media that will attend.. Cost of living in EG is also very expensive.

I understand the media part? What has the cost of living in EG has to do with anything? Is the cost of living not expensive in Morocco or South Africa that hosted the last ANC? :?

Good move on the part of CAF. Strong message to the rest of the world.

They hosted in two cities just 2years ago so should not be that difficult expanding that to 4 cities. Yes there will be challenges BUT better than cancelling the ANC.

Not sure the issue with hotels. Many houses/lodges etc will become emergency hotels.

Pity Cameroon did not come to CAF's rescue.

Going forward, CAF must work towards making ANC profitable and attractive to the hosts. If Morocco sees that ANC as something profitable, they will not try that nonsense. CAF need to mke ANC lucrative.

Additionally, CAF need to have reserve hosts.

Big deal. I guess CAF should consider Western media confusion in its decision to award hosting right?

This is an unusual situation and CAF must and did consider what is considered most favorable to it. I certainly have little problem with the decision to let Equatorial Guinea back in if the alternative is to NOT HAVE the CAN in 2015. IMHO, CAF made the right call here. As CAF pointed out, to allow the Moroccans to push the Confederation around is to open up a can of worms to be exploited and cited by others in the future. CAF put down its foot strong and I hope more is to come in letting the Moroccans know who is making the calls.
