They seek him here.
They seek him there.
Moderators seek him everywhere.
They seek him at night
And even at noon

1988-90: Hungered for more challenges, and left Nigeria's borders for Ivory Coast, where he made his mark by going well into double figures in scoring. That was unique because the Ivorien league was notorious for cruel defenders who took no prisoners, a characteristic of that league that was abetted by permissive refereeing.

1990-91: Relocated to Portugal, where he teamed up with a small Portuguese club, Vitoria Setubal. His 13 goals in his debut season could not help Setubal to avoid relegation to the second division.

1991-92: Scored 22 goals in 30 games in the Portuguese second division.

1992-93: Was the top scorer in the Portugese second division, scoring 34 of his team's 64 goals as they won promotion to the first division.

1993-94: Repeated the feat by winning the first division Golden Boot with a total of 21 goals in just 28 matches for Vitoria Setubal, which helped them to a surprising 6th place in the league as new-comers. Missed a number of matches late in the season due to National Team commitments for Nigeria. First he was required in the African Nations Cup in Tunisia, and the he had to be released early to prepare for the World Cup finals. Four of his 21 goals came from the spot, and he also had a hat-trick in the 4-0 defeat of Salgueiros in his last game of the season. Partnered Chiquinho Conde from Mozambique in attack, and they scored 36 of the team’s 56 goals.

1994-95: Signed for Greek top side Olympiakos in the summer, but the move would turn out to be a disaster, as he could not get on with his team-mates or the club officials, and walked out from the club just a few games into the season. Olympiakos eventually finished as runners-up to Panathinaikos, a massive 16 points behind the champions.

1995-96: Joined Sporting Gijon in the Spanish Primera Division, but did not score a single goal in ten league appearances.

1996-97: Only featured in four league games (two from start) for Sporting Gijon, before he was sold to his former team, Vitoria Setubal in Portugal. Re-united with his old striking partner Chiquinho Conde, but could not find the same form as he had in his earlier spell in Portugal, as Setubal finished in 12th place in the league.

1997-98: Signed for Zürich in Switzerland, where he teamed up with fellow Nigerian Ike Shorunmu. In Switzerland, glimpses of the ‘old Yekini’ was seen, as he formed a powerful and effective African attacking duo with Shabani Nonda of DR Congo. Finished the season with 14 goals, among them a hat-trick in the 4-0 defeat of Sion, as Zürich snapped up the last UEFA Cup spot.

2003: Sensationally back in the Nigerian League with Julius Berger, 39 years old, twenty years after his league debut in 1993. Scored in the opening game of the season, a penalty kick in Berger's 2-1 defeat of Kano Pillars in Abeokuta, and then scored a hat-trick against Kwara United.

Pally if not for the same Yekini, we wouldn't have even made the World Cup to be in a position to play Italy in the first place so abeg cut the dude some slack.

However if you want to see missed sitters, go and re-watch the Tunisia 94 Semi-Final against CIV. We were one missed chance away from a heart attack.

It nice to see the great peeps of Naija defending the greatest son of the soil; Yeking was a patriot. He led by example. He's never one to miss camp. And he did his work for the SE.

Yet peeps like the Enigma himself--Ayo; and this KC2G that I actually thot was intellingent will try to indulge their selective amnesia and think the goalsfather was a bust.

That's blasphemous! Thanks goodness we saw Yekini play. From 1990 ANC till the gracious bowing out after 94 World cup, he was the only sure-banker in the SE line up.

Westerhof used to boast those days that no GK can stop Yekini's shot in the entire continent.

Martins is light years away from equaling anything the goalsfather did talkless of surpassing it; and this is coming from me--an ardent Martins fan.
...but with God all things are possible...
