One of three ANC's we've won. They should have accomplished more but let's not act like they did nothing.

Many members here (CE) has suggested we hire Oliseh as our next Eagles coach, perhaps it is time to "try him" and let's see what he can do as the SE's coach.

In fairness they got jobbed. They could've very easily won back to back and probably to back ANC titles had they not been prevented from defending their title in 96 by that jizz stain Abacha.

...he won't be that too much of a difference maker in fact may worse than previous Eguavon, Siaisa, Keshi, Keshi being the best followed by Siasia.

They won only one ANC. That is fact. That is the truth. That is history.

How many should they have won?

They won only one ANC just like any other team or group. There is nothing special about that.

In the context of great teams globally or continentally, sure...they're not great. In the context of Nigeria, even with their underachievement, they're still the greatest generation we ever had until another set does better.

They would most likely have won the 1998 ANC

Remembering Nigeria's golden age

Post by Tbite »

Not sure if this has been posted already, apologies if that is the case.
Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

Thanks to Abacha, they won 1 ANC. They also won Olympics gold. It is a golden age because they took our football to unknown heights and popularity. Something we can only dream of today.

So Nigeria never achieved what the 94 team did in 2013 and 14? The 94 team is too overhyped, they are only slightly better than 2013 class- on both occasions we have failed to build upon success.

That team gave Naija pride in the way they played. It was a truly a roller coaster watching them and how they even ran top teams close, it's not a mistake they were ranked 5th in the world at some point in the mid-90s. This Keshi team is just awful and the nations cup win in 2013 was a fluke, save for 2 games we played awful.

To all my bros here dismissing that '94 set as over-hyped...
Say what you please, but no other set pleased us fans more with their brand of football.

Sure, they won only 1 AFCON, which wasn't any less than any other successful set in our history.
But no other set was denied the opportunity to win more AFCONS ('96 & '98) by factors outside football.

More significant, they were the first to truly put 9ja on the world map.

And they gave us JJ Okocha, and that is more than enough.

I can assure you it's more important than that..."
