Bra Rawlings, I fully concur with you on this one. Even if I hit the Powerball Jackpot, I will never spend that on a watch!!!Rawlings wrote:why do people spend £25,000 on a watch?
what can this watch do that a regular watch cannot?
I bought a £18 watch from Petticoat Lane Market (liverpool street station) in London in 2006
It still works like magic
Cheers!!!

Re: Ibe's watch stolen at Knife point
True but some people make money by crook or by hook and acquire vain stuffs as a form of mitigation for their glaring inferiority complex and low self-esteem which they shamelessly announce with their empty loudness. After squandering all they have acquired in pursuit of recognition they often quietly return to their natural status of nobodies and burdens on the society at large.Cellular wrote:there's a difference. It is a difference most people who can't afford it don't even recognize. It is like the saying, "how could you miss what you never had".Tbite wrote:Why does it hold value and why does it appreciate in value? Secondly, some watches do hold value and some actually appreciate in value.
Value is subjective just as much as it is objective. Something appreciates in value does not mean it is valuable. If you prioritize anything, it will be valuable. These items are not truly valuable, at least not to the extent that the prices reflect.
What is apparent is that human beings believe in a class divide, AND a class divide is not simply about knowledge, power and capital in general - but it is also about communicating that inequality. It serves as a material milestone for that individual and it also creates a false allure, suggesting that the powerful are inherently different.
It is not about the individual item, but its relation to other items. As if to say that, these people will have these items, and those people will have those times. There is not much difference in value (in reality). It is all a facade.
I believe that human beings need a class divide, it is something that gives some meaning and purpose to our lives, but there is a certain degree in which the value of goods or work should be inflated. All too often, it is overdone.
Precious metals are called "Precious Metals" for a reason.
Some folks like to pass heirlooms down from generation to generation... some people don't!
BTW, some people make money to be able to afford the finer things in life because it makes them happy. Some people make money to just refresh their browser to see how much they have in their account. Different strokes for different folks.
