They won Nothing!
"Our enemies are the political profiteers, the swindlers, the men in high and low places that seek bribes and demand 10 percent; those that seek to keep the country divided permanently so that they can remain in office as ministers or VIPs at least, the tribalists, the nepotists, those that make the country look big for nothing before international circles, those that have corrupted our society and put the Nigerian political calendar back by their words and deeds." - Kaduna Nzeogwu

Thanks, Chief, for sharing this. It seems like yesterday when all these unfolded.
Still cannot believe that the team lost to Italy in the quarter-final.

They illegally fouled Diego Maradona to go through...

Diego came back stronger next World Cup.

Bros go watch that game again. Italy destroyed them. Played better football, tore them apart like an expired Kenyan schilling bank note. They had ballers though, Socrates, Falcao, Zico, Eder and Junior. But Rossi, Tardelli, Conti, Zoff were way better...and they won.

I don't remember Italy dominating them and I felt bad when Italy won but Dino Zoff and Paolo Rossi happened to that team in 82. I think the gods were to blame.

That was when I fell in love with footy. I must have watched that game 100 times after that. Italy outplayed them on the balance of play and I think had a disallowed goal. Brazil were always chasing the game and their striker Serginho was terrible on the day.

Thanks for making the point of my thread, after dancing ajasco. Anyway , serginho was terrible. I read that Careca was their original striker, but he got injured

But we fell in love for different reasons, you for heroic failure, me for cunning victory. :taunt:

Cried my eyes out. Brazil was meant to be the Nigerian team.

My brother (in his tough love manner), ordered me to stop crying and asked if I would have cried blood if I knew when Odiye scored the own goal that knocked us out of the running for the 78 World Cup.

That was a solid Brazilian team, but massive respect to Italy.

It was also a really good World Cup for Africa.

It was an unbalanced team of good ballers. That's why they lost to Italy.

The team was top heavy to the left. Italy simply exploited their weakness.
