I don’t know much about Tolu Arokodare, but I suspect there may be a smear campaign at play—especially from the post of the individual who drew a contrast between Tolu and Calvin.

Calvin is giving back, which is commendable. However, there’s no evidence that Tolu isn’t doing the same. At most, there may be indications that Tolu has asked Nigerians not to request money from him directly (ie begging).

I believe both Calvin and Tolu can contribute meaningfully in their own ways. At the same time, Tolu’s stance on not encouraging handouts is understandable. To grow GDP we need to encourage the society to create value and not just be consumers. Giving back is a way to encourage this but so is government policy and entrepreneurship

If Tolu did say what’s being attributed to him, my advice would be to be more cautious with his words. Sometimes, saying nothing is better. Bigging isn't consistent with Igbo culture Period nor is it consistent with democratic principles. And I don't know about Yoruba but I know for sure that bigging is the northerners feudal systems & learned helplessness culture which has now infiltrated the entire nation, the airports, police, customs, our long distance families and now people think its ok to be begging footballers. In fact I still remember as a toddler we use to run along, laugh, mock, & make jokes at these pan-handlers (from the north) in Enugu because the idea of walking around the streets begging was frowned upon as something strangely wrong of course its all now normalized & still doesn’t make sense
