Why shouldnt it become a political tool when we have dictators all over the continent parading as presidents?wawa wrote:This is really a terrible blow for the whole continent.

This is what i read on BBC.REDSPYDA wrote:I heard this didnt take place in Angola but in Congo any confirmation on that
Officials say the shooting occurred in the Angolan oil-rich territory of Cabinda, where rebels have been fighting for independence.

Sky website reported the driver was killed any other confirmation.
"I first saw David Rocastle play in 1983 for the youth team. I remember coming home excitedly from the match and telling my family, "I've just watched the nearest thing to a Brazilian footballer you are ever likely to see - and he comes from Lewisham." - David Dein on Rocky Rocastle

Can we count on West African solidarity? I would like all West African teams to pull out to force Hayatou's hand.
I think it will be foolhardy for the rest of the West African teams to continue playing in Cabinda. They either transfer them to mainland Angola or they pack their bags and go back home.

Nigeria needs to send some troops to guard our players. This is simply unacceptable.

Re: [ACN2010] Togo Team Bus Shot At By Rebel Group
At least they had some police buses as security for them.
They were not completely on their own. Still SAD this had to happen.
''We had just crossed the border five minutes before, we were surrounded by police buses, one in front of us another behind. Everything was fine and then there was a powerful burst of gunfire.
''Everyone threw themselves under the seats and tried to protect themselves but some couldn't escape the bullets. It lasted a good 15 minutes, the police fired back but really, it was hard to handle and it still is now. I'm shocked. When we got off the bus we were asking ourselves why us and not others? We were asking ourselves what had happened, we were crying and thanking God.''
Midfielder Richmond Forson believes the number of injuries could have been much worse had the gunmen not originally fired on the wrong bus.
''It was the bus carrying our baggage which was in front of us which they fired on the most,'' he told Canal Plus. ''They thought we were in the bus in front.
''Fortunately for us. That's what saved us. Then they fired on our driver and those who were in front. The windscreen was shattered by the first bullets. It's disgusting to take bullets for a football match.''

As ever, miscomprehension is afoot! Guys are T-Paining too much, need to pick up a book and read!
All eyes now turn to South Africa and fears for the security of football's stars. Progress? A major international tournament has arrived on African soils, that is progress. Speculation over the safety of that continent will now dominate the discourse till kick-off. Those previously held stereotypes of uncivilised savages stalking the lands will trickle back into tabloid newspaper. Those very stereotypes that distanced the continent from hosting a major tournament! Progress?
How many will now sing the tune of, 'should never be staged in Africa'?. Progress?
Attempts have been made on the lifes of innocent people. One argues in favour of teams withdrawing from the competition, yet others insist the show must go on. Who's show? Who's really justifying slavery here?

Congratulations brethrins, you have stepped the 'Negro', back over a century of progress! The world watches on, wondering why they ever allowed us respite from the straws caps and over-sized dungarees. Few of football's bourgeoisie were in support of the tournament, the cookies crumble could well see it banished to the play time of rebel forces and exiled militia.
One would be in full support of Togo's withdrawal, if safety is taken so cheaply by those that head the round table, then life is not worth risking. A Pied-piper effect should follow, with many other nations pulling out. This is argubaly one of the most shameful acts in the history of international football and deserves the grandiose response it pursues. Shut the whole thing down! If, for the sake of a pound in the organ grinder's pocket, the lives of the monkey can be risked, then the primates should revolt! FIFA, UEFA, The FA, etc etc, all need to step in, they have employees stepping into the line of fire. Africa has once again shown itself to be an untamed, money hungry mercenary and deserves no pardon. Cancel the whole tournament and let us hang our heads in shame!

A shooting? This is a rebel group that shot up the bus, the area should be pacified entirely and a shooting happened?
My prayers go out to the players and the family of the players who have been shot.

One dead.
To the loud mouth earlier, should one continue to S.T.F.U? Has one overexaggerated once more? Gone overboard in his reply? Surely the family of the deceased, so as to avoid a loved one passing in vain, would petition for the tournament to proceed? And, should they not, maybe they too should STFU!
