As I predicted earlier these rebels have promised more attacks should CAF decide to keep the event in Cabinda. So this is just the a quick preview, the beggining....!!

Togo threaten to retire from the ACN.

Angola's government should be ashamed. If Togo follows a complaint to the African Union about Angola's security issues, oh boy.

Wouldnt matter. As I say thousand and thousands of people have died in Cabinda over the years yet how many people know of this? When I was living in the Netherlands I met couple of people from there, refugees for the most part, who told me of so many the horror stories ....If you knew how wicked the Dos Santos regime has been to these people you might understand the rebels. They are just making a statement and trust me many more are to come. Either quit Cabinda or stay at your peril.

so its ok for them to kill Togolese.. I wonder if u were related to one of those hurt if u would say the same thing.. It is always to easy to talk when u are physically and emotionally removed from the situation
I kind of understand where 'kamerun' is coming from. I don't think he's being insensitive. He is saying Cabinda is a war zone and not suitable to host ANC games.
While holding the rebels accountable, the people who delivered our players into their hands have more guilt! The main culprits here are Hayatou, Dos Santos, CAF, Angola and the FTF!
The more widely Christianity was diffused, and the greater the number of people unprepared for it who were brought under its sway, the less it was understood, the more absolutely was its infallibility insisted on, and the less possible it became to understand the true meaning of the doctrine. Close the competition down, the only thing that is safe, is the cabinet behind the portrait that harbours the money for travel expenses! This incident places great emphasis on the lack of security within the continent. The world is watching, rather than bait the ravid beasts that stalk these plains, walk away and concentrate efforts now on what will be tomorrow's moral panic!

That would send a message to the terrorists that they've won. :winking:

If the AU would just send troops to safely escort every team, then all would be good. I don't want to value a human life over another, by any means, a Togo life is worth the same as any other life, but what if the CIV team got attacked? The Egyptian team? The Cameroonian team? The Nigerian team? This would be a very serious political scandal.

Its sad Togolese were the victims this time but what I am saying is the focus should not be on the rebels. This incident should go to show what years of poor leadership can do ...but no people are shortsighted and blaming the rebels. How many well governed countries do you know of with rebel groups???

The loss of life can rarely be justified but like much of Africa there are serious injustices going on in Angola, the Dos Santos clan (particularly his sons) are plundering the place.

Injustice sadly often begets more injustice.

The FLEC/PM, Forces de Libération de l’Etat du Cabinda/Position Militaire (Cabinda State Liberation Forces/ Military Position) have taken responsibility for the attack. Here is the publication (signed by General Secretary Rodrigues Mingas)

The Angolan government should be held responsible for this. Isn't it their responsibility to ensure that all the competing teams are adequately protected???

This incident has now cast a massive shadow over the tournament. South Africa be warned!

This isnt a Cold War scenario, we are talking about a failure to protect these players. Why were they meandering through rebel territory? Where was the convoy of police escorts, army officials that would be at optimum level were it England or Spain coming to play here? Africa has no respect for Africa. Forget who has the last bragging rights, we're talking about life and death! When football comes to that, is it worth playing? Close the competition down, and those hands that hold the silver coins stain with the blood of those passed and injured!

According to the Secretary-General of the FLEC/PM, CAF was warned many times that Cabinda was a war zone and not suitable to host ANC games. He also said that this is just the beginning of many 'targeted actions' throughout Cabinda.

As far as I am concerned, there is enough elements here to drag CAF, Hayatou and Dos Santos to Court. Someone has to pay for the health care of our players and their families.

Yes but if the Angolan government takes on the responsibility of the ACN, the Togolese players are under their protection, and their soil. The Angolan government should've done something to avoid this disaster. The big losers in this will be the Togo players, government and nation namely the families who had their sons wounded in this event and the poor family of the bus driver who was killed. If you have rebels upset with the nation, fine. They want blood, fine. But at the expense of foreigners entering the land? Do something to keep the rebels out of the mountains, bulk up security or just anything.

The Togo government will press charges against Angola's government. They can take it to the African Union, they could even take it up all the way to the United Nations and they'd be fully justified in doing so.

If this was expected, then prevent the situation before this happens. If this will continue to happen, remedy the situation. But to say "injustice breeds more injustice" when those being involved are helpless and have nothing to do with it is an awful excuse that cannot, should not, and will not be tolerated when brought up to higher government.

It was a soft target....Terrorists / Rebels / Whatever you might want to call them will always do that...

It is a damn shame and may have serious long term implications for the ANC vs European players (See the last sentence in the Man City release on Adebayor)

Wishing those injuries a speedy recovery
Thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and their families

I remember Osaze's father was shot at in Nigeria of all places
Mikel's relative kidnapped
Obafemi's car shot at

Why do we try to destroy our own?

Ironically our 3 best players have legitimate reasons to hate Nigeria...However on matchday all 3 put in 110% effort

To the loud mouth earlier, should one continue to S.T.F.U? Has one overexaggerated once more? Gone overboard in his reply? Surely the family of the deceased, so as to avoid a loved one passing in vain, would petition for the tournament to proceed? And, should they not, maybe they too should STFU!
Actually, it was your seeming lack of concern for the injured that led to the comment. Seemed you were only concerned about what the rest of the world thinks.
May God bless the injured and the dead.

Angola better heighten security ten-fold for this tourny. South Africa better be paying attention to this.

I think that Togo will remain in the tournament but they deserve some serious reparations from Angolan authorities.
