Yes, but not so for the bold & underlined.Goldleaf wrote:For a player that has played at Liverpool, Arsenal, in China and now in Barcelona and has won countless Women APoY awards, Asisat Oshoala is one hell of a head scratcher. She promised greatness at U20 level and but for a few glimpses like that world class goal against South Korea, she is utterly woeful.
We can say whatever we want, but coach Dennerby has improved the Falcons defensively speaking. France could have played for 2 days last night but they would not have scored a goal but for FIFA's help.
But you need to study Oshoala in a game to understand. She is not in synch with her mates, never chases the ball or the opposition down and when she heads, it is directionless. Sometimes coaches leave players like that on the pitch because of a possible star turn, but her impact on her mates can be devastating when they work hard and she just strolls around like the lord of the manor. Her positioning too is awful and always far away from the main action with her negative body language.
She really needs to improve or simply be dropped!
The coach only had them go into a bunker (or far more bunker) which previous coaches did not do.

You have to recognize that very fact before insisting that they play the reckless way of "if you score 4, we will score 5".

And in the dying minutes when France brought in from the bench their 1st eleven starting players to add more offense, the Falcons coach should have made changes to improve the bunker/defense & keep the French rampaging forwards in front of them to avoid that penalty incident.Oguleftie wrote:Yes, but not so for the bold & underlined.Goldleaf wrote:For a player that has played at Liverpool, Arsenal, in China and now in Barcelona and has won countless Women APoY awards, Asisat Oshoala is one hell of a head scratcher. A counter-attacking team is not a better playing team, and should not boast before the game that they will defeat the opposition.Cellular wrote:Naijaria is a counter-attacking team.Oguleftie wrote:Yes, but not so for the bold & underlined.Goldleaf wrote:For a player that has played at Liverpool, Arsenal, in China and now in Barcelona and has won countless Women APoY awards, Asisat Oshoala is one hell of a head scratcher. But you first recognize your strengths and play to it.
I have said this years back, we have to be a hard-working team. We don't have the ball jugglers from the Okosha generation. We need more of Garba Lawals and Ndidi types. And be efficient in front of goal. Give me a Mikel with even John Ogu who can play ball to feet and 8 water carriers I will be playing every final.

You don't know what you are talking about. Any player, from Pele to Maradona, to Messi (recent Champions league final) can have a bad day at the office. It is called being human.blueangel wrote:Don't you think in certain games, top talented players have no excuse and have to perform.Lolly wrote:The girl doesn't deserve this rubbish thread. Don't you think that may mean a voctory or a loss for their sides ?
How many times has Ronaldo stepped up for Portugal and Cavani for Uruguay.
Hakeem for the Rockets.
A true champion shines when they have to.
Hopefully in our next game she will show up.

So it was her lack of Hustle that made her score against S Korea?oscar52 wrote:She doesn't have ball skills with ball at her feet so no hold up play but most of all what I don't like is the lack of hustle from her, she is zapping her teams energy with her body language. She is playing like she is surrounded by Barcelona players not Nigerian players. Ball over the top and she refuses to give chase, no good effort or hustle from her. Ordega and Oparanozie are limited but at least they hustle.
If you have to level one thing against her it is not lack of Hustle.

I suspect she was carrying injury from the beginning of tournament till yesterday, and the coach left her because replacements were not as good. See when they came on for the few minutes left, no impact.
Re: TOOTHLESS ASSISAT
She was not chasing errand balls or closing down defenders. Her job is not to score alone, she has to lead and inject some energy into her team by playing by example. All the strolling while balls are being played around her is not good enough. She can't try that with a Nigerian coach, the yelling she go receive no go small.heavyd wrote:So it was her lack of Hustle that made her score against S Korea?oscar52 wrote:She doesn't have ball skills with ball at her feet so no hold up play but most of all what I don't like is the lack of hustle from her, she is zapping her teams energy with her body language. That is actually the only downside I see in her play now. Yes, she turns the ball over but that will occur for some forwards. The biggest issue is just the seeming lack of effort when we are in ball recovery phase that occurs from her turnovers. It may just be fitness issues because I had not noticed that about her in previous tournaments. The problem is that Assisat is much better than she has shown in this tournament. It isn't even close.

Re: ASISAT RE-EXAMINED
will not single any player out for blame, thats team was poorly trained, the coach set up the team to play defensive against France meaning when she received the ball, she always had 3 French players on her, especially that tall mixed race French defender, she looked mean!!!
So angry Nigeria got kicked out of the world cup once again, i nearly told my wife that i caught my girlfriend with another man today!

Re: ASISAT RE-EXAMINED
I have never understood the reasoning behind some people thinking particular players cannot be criticized. We are fans and fans critic players. Asisat was absolute rubbish in the game against France- total waste. All players were poor TECHNICALLY, but she was the only one that I can say did not pull her weight; Ordega, Oparanozie were techically zero, but you could actually see them working hard for the team. All the Falcons gave maximum effort and I applaud them. Perhaps she was injured, that's the only excuse I can give for her strolling through the game while the others were busting their guts. It was terrible to see.
Re: ASISAT RE-EXAMINED
she performs better when the team are in the front foot, not a defensive formation, perhaps the coach should have picked another player who could help the team defend and attack, i hear there were a few decent ones on the benchairwolex wrote:I have never understood the reasoning behind some people thinking particular players cannot be criticized. Bros..that's not an excuse. If she is a luxury player then she needs to have quality. My hunch is that she wasn't fit. I haven't watched enough of her to form an opinion on her application and attitude.marko wrote:she performs better when the team are in the front foot, not a defensive formation, perhaps the coach should have picked another player who could help the team defend and attack, i hear there were a few decent ones on the benchairwolex wrote:I have never understood the reasoning behind some people thinking particular players cannot be criticized. Re: ASISAT RE-EXAMINED
Our team defended with confidence. The defence and GK is much improved. As for the tall mixed race defender you refer to, that is Wendie Richard, France captain height 6ft 1in and she has been very poor in this tournament including her own goal against Norway. Our front 3 Ordega, Oparanozie and Oshoala have not been able to hold up the ball therefore wasting the energy of everybody else. For Oshoala's sake, let's hope there is an inury issue because I don't think she deserves a place in the starting line-up if we manage to qualify. She is minus 1.marko wrote:will not single any player out for blame, thats team was poorly trained, the coach set up the team to play defensive against France meaning when she received the ball, she always had 3 French players on her, especially that tall mixed race French defender, she looked mean!!!
