At some point Sadiq is bound to get upset after wasting his time with Afcon then sending him home with a fake injury. I don’t blame him.

Sadiq better be careful. He is not even a sure thing to be invited to camp. If he gets frozen out, not many will bat an eyelid.

The glut of injuries that hits Nigeria before key matches is extraordinary. It is almost a force majeure event to have the following simultaneously injured and unavailable for selection:

Osimhen
Boniface
Awoniyi
Troost-Ekong (c)
Aina
Zaidu
Moses
Bassey

Nigeria had a similar injury pile-up in the lead-in to the AFCON when 4 of its first choice 5 strikers got injured simultaneously.
I do not know of any team in the world that can lose its captain, first choice striker, back up striker to the first choice striker, back-up to the back-up striker, best defender, both full backs, and a center back (AKA the entire defence!) - without suffering a diminution in performance.

How would Manchester City cope if Haaland, Alvarez, Foden, Bernardo Silva, Walker, Ruben Dias, Ake, Akanji, and Stones got injured simultaneously? Or how would France do if Mbappe, Griezmann, Nkunku, Coman, both Hernandez brothers, Upamecano, Kounde, and Pavard all got injured simultaneously? Would City or France play as fluently without all those key players?

One thing I noticed is that a lot of the bench players and the dancing crew during AFCON were Finidis guys and they seem to be getting their minutes now. Guys like Awaziem and Omeruo but it’s hard to evaluate what happens when guys like Ekong come back. Definately the selection had no rhyme or reason, it wasn’t about showcasing new players and it wasn’t about merit because if it was no way Kelechi starts ahead of Lookman or Dessers comes on ahead of Sadiq. If it was about trying new players then Fisayo plays and most of all on merit Tella checks both boxes.

Either way for a guy who is Nigerian and has been around the team and knows the set up this is disappointing and this is why I would prefer the US born Nigerian coach Nsien
