For the 2nd goal, yes, “mistake” is more debatable. But were I a coach, I’d be looking for that defender’s replacement. That ball was his and Victor stole it. If that was Omeruoh/Ekong, everybody would be saying they’re past it and need to go.

You’d quickly run out of reliable defenders.
Osimhen is well known to ‘steal’ the ball off some of the best defenders in the world.
It’s his quickness of thought, his quickness of movement and those long elastic legs God has blessed him with. Simply put, he beat the player to the airborne ball and went on to score.

Every non-Napoli defender in Italy and non-Gala defender in Turkey would have been removed. Then in CL, Chelsea, Liverpool and Leicester would have lost their defenders, as well.

Many a time, once the Rwandan team figured out what was happening, the out ball was to their full backs because our midfielders were all tucked in and arrived late every single time. Our 2 forwards occupied the 2 CBs but the full backs were in acres of space to get the ball whenever Rwanda passed out the back. Once the tucked in midfielders got pulled wide, our midfield spread wide open with passing lanes everywhere. Thankfully Rwanda is a terrible team so we survived. On the ball we were even worse. Simon was just running around trying to get in behind...crazy when u have Osi next to you. Passing left a lot to be desired...just not good enough.

What some teams will do is have the two forwards occupy the space between the FBs and the CBs; and the tip of the diamond (i.e. Lookman) would occupy and/or press the space between the two CBs.

That way, if the defence finds an out ball into one of the FBs or into the midfield then the LCM (Iwobi) and RCM (Samu) can better retain their shape and remain narrow rather than being pulled wide. With the extra cover of the player occupying the base of the diamond.

1st goal: Victor’s marker slipped. I was about to start abusing the Rwandans for forgetting to mark Victor Osimhen, but if you look at the replay, his marker slipped, allowing Victor an open goal.

Abuse, why? You mean, thanks the Rwandans, right?
