Hmmm...if we can't beat SA in Nigeria, I can't see this bunch of low-IQ players and their clueless coach hacking it in SA!

When this ediot left Imoh then Onyekuru I started doubting his ability to make smart and discerning decisions. The fool should be fired he lacks what it takes to be a good coach. How can you select Kelechi as your number nine who has not been playing regularly for his club but left out a guy who scored 23 goals for his club. That's definitely insane and stupid

Nigerian sports has never been this bad in my 25 years on this planet, never been this bad!

Athletics dead, football dead (yes dead, keep in mind the tournaments we have missed already, so don't give me that - it's just one game BS). Table Tennis alright, Basketball alright...but by and large sports is dead in Nigeria.

:curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse:
Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

It is but no more time for missteps. The good thing is that it's SA and not Egypt or something. They are always good for messing up. Don;t be surprised if Libya beats them.

And this Uyo stadium sef and the over-friendly fans that fill it. Any new modern stadium also seem to make foreign teams too comfortable. I miss the intimidation of Surulere.

Nigeria unbeaten at home in a qualifier of any sort since 1981 and they lose to a team who never beat them in a competitive game :scared:

LOL, the truth is Keshi, Siasia are tactically far better than Rohr but their ego and corrupted nature is and was their downfall.....local coaches mostly lack ambition.

how can you work so hard to qualify for the best place to showcase ur talent like a WC and you take the likes of Uchebo, Ameobi........

the team today was the best of what was available. if Mikel, ikeme and Moses played, we don't lose this game. i am glad they lost....it is a wake up call that is much needed

on hindsight maybe not Awaziem and we need Enyeama, cos Ikeme is too injure prone for a keeper and the back-ups are glorified ball boys

Unimaginative
Poor
Sloppy
Cannot control the football
Disorganized
Slow
Second to the ball at all times
Panicky and unrelaxed
Fire on the mountain run, run
Low football IQ
Unfit to wear the GWG
Poor strategy based on hopeful, long balls
Cannot win competitive headers
First instinct is to pass back
Ball watchers
Static and no off the ball running

This is the poorest SE performance of all times.

Eddy Ogenyi Onazi SHOULD NOT BE IN THE SUPER EAGLES. He only puffs and puffs and gives the impression that he is a footballer but HE IS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

We must NEVER assemble another 11 without JON OBI MIKEL, VICTOR MOSES and at least CARL IKEME or ENYEAMA.

This team today is a ragtag bunch that can never ever be said to be players of the SE. I hope Gernot Rohr has learnt his lesson. Alex Iwobi is not SE material. Kele is not an arrowhead. I am pleased for this performance and this outing because Gernot Rohr would have learnt that the names Rasheed Yekini, Daniel Amokachi, Segun Odegbami, Stephen Keshi, Muda Lawal, Nwankwo Kanu, JJ Okocha are the calibre that we are used to, not these guys.

Rohr, this is your YELLOW CARD!!!!! :boo: :boo: :boo: :boo: :boo:

Just watched the game. I think the issue is with speed. The S Africans simply had too much speed and stamina for the Eagles defense especially Awaziem who looked completely lost at sea.

Furthermore, Onazi may be on his last legs at this point and he could not adequately protect the defense today

Man CIty boy is too slow. He needs someone fast up there with him

Overall it was a disastrous performance

What are you doing about it is the real question. We have a Ministry of sports that could perform better and we dey internet dey cry. We don't hold leaders accountable enough.

Issues:
Akpeyi - just not a good keeper. Did nothing to prevent any of the goals and was poor with defending the two that were scored.
Abdullahi - he's a decent player, but not at RB. Musa Muhammad, Ola Aina, Tyrone Ebuehi... not him
Awaziem - poor debut for him... unfortunately.
Echiejile - mediocre player
Onazi - he adds nothing offensively and he's no Mikel, until further notice Mikel is indispensible.
Etebo - I fail to understand his hype, he runs around a lot but creates nothing, Iwobi or Iheanacho should be playing there and Kelechi Nwakali needs to feature sooner than later
Simon - he can come on as a supersub, but he will never be a starter. Onyekuru or Musa would have probably been better
Iwobi - needs to play as the AM or not at all
Iheanacho - didn't have much to work off of, but he's once again proved he's not a target men - he's a second striker or a winger or an AM, not an out-and-out striker, that said he probably made Nigeria's best chances and should never have been subbed out

Ndidi and Ekong the only two players I wouldn't criticize.

Rohr - the subs were all wrong:
- they were way to late, possibly a midfield change should have occured at halftime, the final sub of Osimhen was way too late
- Etebo / Onazi needed to be pulled and some creativity added to midfield.
- Iheanacho should never have been pulled, instead he should have been retreated and a proper striker should have gone up front of him

POSITIVES:
Found only one: I loved Osimhen's brief cameo. He was great as a target man and managed to work off of scraps. This is a bona fide target man.

Were we playing top notch football .... or were our opponents weak?
Zambia and Algeria weak?
I am not talking about their names and historical records, I am talking about their performances on the day.

If name and historical record was what counted, we would have beaten South Africa today by at least 3 goals .... but we didn't, because we were poor.

Can you concede that there is a chance the Zambia and Algeria teams we played were poor?

On second thoughts...
I am glad this happened now to this young team now - they have been riding a crest of overhype making them feel that are better than they actually are. This would bring them down to earth. I still believe they will win the group and beat SA in SA.

Also, enough with this Uyo crap. We need to play our games in the Caulderon - Lagos. Need to fix that stadium ASAP!!! Lagos fans will let you have it if you mess up. Uyo is way too passive.
