The overated underachievers have shown themselves once more!

As many times I said it on this forum that CIV is overrated, folks said I was jealous of CIV. :???: CIV will revert back to being an average team after this tournament or Drogba's retirement (which ever comes first).

I still don't understand why Eguaevon and Vogts played defensively and scared against CIV in 2006 and 2008 respectively. To beat CIV, you need to expose them by attacking them. They've always been vulnerable in defense and their midfield is not as tough as it looks on paper.
See you next decade CIV. :rotf:
Oh well, some of us just know this game of football. :taunt:

In one of those IC hyper threads I said if they can't make at least to the final then IC is $@#% while some already picked them to go all the way in SA. People, football is more than talent if they are really the most talented side. Great players know how to win.

Silver (finalist) 2006
Bronze (semifinalist) 2008
QF 2010

Group stage elimination 2012?

hmmmmm

It reminded me of SA
1996 winner
1998 finalist
2000 SF
2002 QF
2004 Group stage

This is not about SE. This is about the overrating of CIV by both Africa and International press. They've been overated since Drogba emerged in 2006 even though it was clear in my opinion that they will always underachieve be it Youth, Olympics, ANC or World Cup.

Yes. Amodu has the skills and the needed luck to take care of all comers.

This is the end of Ivory Coast. They will retire to mediocrity like their brothers Senegal after this World Cup.And after this the true Giants of African football and I mean THE REAL GIANTS like Cameroon, Nigeria and Egypt to continue their dominance.

Definitely over rated. I will not fall into that trap again. I thought they were the real deal till i saw their first two games. Immediately, I knew they would be exposed. If not today im the semi's or finals.

It is always most amusing when people talk about CIV as favourites and start throwing names like Drogba, Yaya Toure, dis and dat. Well, favourites my black a$$!

CIV score first, Algeria equalised
CIV scored second, Algeria equalised
Algeria scored next, did CIV equalise?

That tells you the team has no character, no mental strength and means of recovery, simply put no plan B. Algeria could and should have humiliated them by scoring 5!

The CIV so-called big boys talk the talk but cannot walk the walk. Those who crucify Yak will shoot Drogba who was missing for most of the game. Yaya Toure was nowhere to be found while the keeper was a joke. To top it, I'm sure the coach is paid more than 10 times what Amodu is paid.

Hopefully, all those lazy reporters who made CIV the favourites for this CAN will now rub their eyes again and hopefully, the CIV coach (if he retains his job) will realise that big names mean nothing if there is no motivation to achieve.

DONT MIND THEM. WE ONLY BEAT TEAMS LIKE KENYA AND BENIN. WE COULDN'T EVEN BEAT TUNISIA WHO ARE QUITE A BIT WORSE THAN ALGERIA.

The Ivorian central defence was alarmingly disjointed atimes. The Algerian who scored the first goal was able to capture long balls and muscle through the two centre backs many a time.

The entire team was slower than I expected, but perhaps that can be chalked down to the heat and humidity of Angola that has affected others as well.

They were great at winning the ball, but the passing and off-ball movement was quite suspect.

Up front, no Drogba, no deal.

Definitely overrated.

At the same time, though, Algeria was underrated by just about everyone, their elimination of Egypt from the WC notwhithstanding. Yes, they had only scored 1 goal in thisANC before tonight, but apart from their opening match, they have always looked a side about to get it together. That being said, they have some weaknesses in their midfield that CIV seemed completely unable/unprepared to exploit, which raises a lot of questions about the Elephants' tactics going forward.

This is why I'm hesitant to label the CIV African heavyweights along with Nigeria, Cameroon and Egypt.

The CIV have been the most hyped African team in years but they have simply not accomplished anything more than consecutive WC appearances.

They need to be more consistent over the long term to be true heavyweights. Right now they are good but they have not done much to warrant the hype.

Ivory Coast needs a coach like Mourihno or Amodu to shore up their defense and make the team compact....

So this is the gathering point for all the jealous and hate filled ones? :dream:
Ya'll are blaming the Ivorians for all pundits saying they are favourites because they have the best individual players? Surely you are either jealous or a hater but wont admit it. All of you including cameroonians, nigerians etc...would love to have the press sing your praises, would love to see the world call you the favourites but on paper you simply arent. This thread is similar to one opened by Malawi football fans after their win over Algeria crying about the fact that Algerians where made favourite by the press even before a ball was kicked. Was that the fault of Algerians? Ohh please yall should stop this jealousy. All small teams pray for the favourites to fall so they can come and mouth...its that way everywhere but not with me.
