Petr Cech dares Mikel critics

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has leapt to the defence of Nigeria midfielder Mikel Obi.

Cech said the 25-year-old Mikel remains a highly valued member of the Chelsea squad despite recent criticisms after a mistake at home against Italian champions Juventus.

“Everyone has an opinion but ever since he (Mikel) joined the club he's played a lot of games, all the important games, and he's never missing from the team if he's available for selection,” Cech told the Chelsea official website.

“He's very useful and he was part of our success over the years, he's a massive player and we are happy to have him in the team no matter what anybody else says.”

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has again stood by Mikel, who came on as a second half substitute in Tuesday’s 4-0 away win at Nordsjaellend of Denmark in a UEFA Champions League group tie.

“I don't know why Mikel is underrated by the media or the fans. He is very rated by us in the group and it's a position where you're a bit of an unsung hero,” the Italian coach explained.

“You do the dirty work which is not recognised all the time because the goal scorers and more creative players get the recognition.

“But he is very important for our team, he breaks up the play, he is physically strong, he is getting better on the ball with his distribution and dictates the tempo of the team as well, so we are very happy to have him in our team.”

I was ecstatic and then I saw the source :boo: :boo:
Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

His manager and a long-term team-mate have both praised the work of John Mikel Obi in Chelsea's midfield.

The Nigerian attracted criticism following our last Champions League game against Juventus after he surrendered possession to the Italians in the build-up to their second goal, but with almost 250 Chelsea appearances to his name, the 25-year-old remains a highly valued member of the squad.

'Everyone has an opinion but ever since he joined the club he's played a lot of games, all the important games, and he's never missing from the team if he's available for selection,' Cech said. 'He's very useful and he was part of our success over the years, he's a massive player and we are happy to have him in the team no matter what anybody else says.'

Speaking last night prior to our training session at Parken, temporary home of FC Nordsjaelland, tonight's opponents, Di Matteo echoed the goalkeeper's sentiments.

'I don't know why Mikel is underrated by the media or the fans. He is very rated by us in the group and it's a position where you're a bit of an unsung hero,' the Italian explained.

'You do the dirty work which is not recognised all the time because the goalscorers and more creative players get the recognition. But he is very important for our team, he breaks up the play, he is physically strong, he is getting better on the ball with his distribution and dictates the tempo of the team as well so we are very happy to have him in our team.'
We have been brainwashed by the Premier League that it's the best in the world. Nonsense. It's the best brand
Roy Keane: ITV 02/25/14

He says that we are currently "brainwashed" into believing that the Premier League is the best competition in the world, and that we are now a long way off dominating the Champions League again.
Gary Neville: Mirror: 12/23/14

I think Spain’s by far the best league.

Exactly why am surprised he has been the same way for all these years but suddenly now they need to justify his worth to the team? Who are they trying to convince that hes the man?
