Siasia Prunes Super Eagles Home Stars

Post by Ahidjo »

Super Eagles head coach Samson Siasia has pruned down his squad of home stars, underlining the fact that preparations for the 2017 AFCON qualifiers against Egypt has moved up several levels.

Five players have been released from camp while another one has been transferred to the U23 team also currently in camp in preparation for an international friendly against Brazil.
Defenders Christopher Madaki and Oke Ogagatewho, midfielder Hassan Yau, attackers Prince Aggreh and Ezekiel Bassey have been told to return and stay with their clubs while petit winger Bright Onyedikachi has been transferred to the Olympic Team.

Super Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye told thenff.com that only 13 players are now expected in camp next week as the coaches strive to raise the stakes ahead of the crucial games against Egypt.

"The coaches are gradually cutting down the numbers," Ibitoye disclosed.

"Next week, more players will be released to their clubs and some others will be transferred to the Olympic team also currently in camp ahead of the international friendly against Brazil. I am sure the coaches already have an idea of those home stars that will join the foreign legion for the final phase of preparation in a week's time," he added.

why waste their time?
None of these home-based players will get playing time when the "big" boys show up

Interesting that Aggreh and Bassey, two of Oliseh's preferred home-based wingers were dropped.

Makes a lot of sense
Siaone is dropping his favorite home-based players because he does not want to waste their time

EXCLUSIVE: EAGLES COACH.. WHY WE DROPPED AGGREY,BASSEY AND OTHERS
http://owngoalnigeria.com/2016/03/11/ea ... nd-others/

A member of the techincal crew of the Super Eagles has revealed to owngoalnigeria.com the reasons why five home based players were dropped from the team camp ahead of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers against Egypt.

Defender Christopher Madaki of Giwa FC, Oke Ogagatewho of Sunshine Stars,Midfielder Yau Hassan of Wikki Tourist, striker Prince Aggrey of Kano Pillars and Ezekiel Bassey of Enyimba were all released by the coach Samson Siasia lead crew.

“Madaki we are well aware of his abilities but looking at the options we have in the area of full backs he didn’t quite convince us he will be up to challenge the options we have in Elderson Echiejile and Stanley Amuzie don’t forget Chibuzor Okonkwo can also play there” He told owngoalnigeria.com.

“Oke Ogagatewho started very well but during one of our test games against the U-23s he was off the pace and left us with no option than to release him.

“Aggrey and Bassey in all of our test games particularly against Kastina United failed to live up to what we expected and considering the forwards we expecting to have in camp, there performances didn’t do them well at all”.

“Yau Hassan all though he didn’t do too bad he was however way behind Ifeanyi Matthew in the midfield role and with all due respect to him we have Ogenyi Onazi,Azubuike Okechukwu,Mikel Obi and Shehu Abdullahi to come, so we decided not to waste his time”

He however said Bright Onyedikachi showed enough promise to warrant him to be sent to the U-23s as exemplified by the goal he scored against the U-23s during one of their short test games.

Rawlings, this is one of the few things you have spoken the truth and I agree with you. Why waste everybody's time when the players will; probably, NOT be used in the Egypt encounter?
And the BIBLE says: The race is NOT for the swift, neither is the battle for the strong nor ... but time and chance makes them all.

How exactly is it a waste of time?

Haven't the SE fielded home-based players before (I believe I distinctly recall a home-based player scoring the goal that won the 2013 ANC, but it could just be my mind playing tricks on me). So, exactly how else would the coaches decipher which home-based player is good enough? Perhaps the way mighty Internet-certified CE coaches do it on these pages - by just throwing together a bunch of names?

Btw, if we follow the quite frankly ludicrous logic that only the players who are actually going to play on the day should be called-up (and exactly how one can pre-determine those players without the benefit of practice eludes one - but then again in the fantasy world of CE, why bother with such little inconveniences), then why bother to call-up more than the maximum of 14 players who can play in any given match or at most the 18 players who can dress?

The same way they decipher which foreign player is good enough :winking:
You cannot determine the ability of a player based on 3-5 days in camp.
That's a no no and no successful football country in the world does that
Inviting 45 home-based players was simply ridiculous

You mean by inviting 20 foreign-based players, when only 14 can possibly play? :winking:

BTW, perhaps if the Black Stars called up 42 prospects...
They might just win another ANC title in our lifetimes - instead of always falling short!

You never know which type of player will be required during the game, so inviting 14 does not just make sense
The recommendation is to have a minimum of two players per position, since you cannot predict if it's the left back, right back, center forward who will be injured or have a bad game.. or if you simply have to change tactics
That's the reason for about 22 players not 14 ... Got it? :winking:

Now, If you want to discuss the black stars, please do not do it here
We are busy discussing SE ...

No surprises so far in those that he has trimmed from the squad. Would not have favoured any of the dropped players to make the final squad. I do like the decision to remand Bright Onyedikachi to the Olympic team.

Siasia: I’m yet to see hunger in Eagles

Siasia: I’m yet to see hunger in Eagles
ON MARCH 12, 20161:54 AMIN NEWS, SPORTSCOMMENTS

Super Eagles head coach Samson Siasia has challenged the Super Eagles home stars to show they can be relied on to deliver the goods in crucial matches whenever the need arises. “We have to step up our commitment level and show more seriousness,” the Coach opened up to his players. “I am yet to see that hunger in all of you in all the friendly matches we have played so far since we opened this camp. We are facing Egypt in about two weeks and we will not stand any chance against them if we do not change our attitude,” Siasia said. He added: “How can we, the Super Eagles, play against this NNL team and fail to create one clear –cut goal scoring opportunity? If we cannot create chances in this kind of games, when and where will we be able to create them? I know we are far better than this performance and will improve but we have to do so very quickly because there is no time.”

Shocking! Dude should be fired pronto...

If Rawlings and CE IC-coaches know which players are suitable...
What kind of coach needs 22 players to figure out "which type" to suit up?

watching Aggrey at the CHAN , he was rubbish.

Bassey seems to only want to dribble head down.

Oliseh was not honest in the way he chose players, he was better than Ke$hi but still far from ideal.
