Mancity defender Tosin Adarabioyo

Doesnt Seem interested in Playing for Nigeria at the moment but given the dearth of top quality centre backs, we need to be on his case. Certainly seems a better prospect than Awaziem

Looks likely to make a breakthrough at Manchester City sooner rather than later. A captain of City's age group sides, Adarabioyo has impressed Guardiola enough in pre-season that the new Etihad chief feels the defender can trusted to fill for first-team absentees. With Eliaquim Mangala not match fit after returning for pre-season late post-Euro 2016 and Nicolas Otamendi struggling with a tendon issue, Guardiola plumped Alexandr Kolarov at centre half but Adarabioyo is the next in line.

The defender has impressed Pep Guardiola in pre-season and City are short at the back. As Adarabioyo holidayed in the Algarve he couldn't of imagined his rise to prominence. Whilst the youngster, who has progressed through the ranks with City since joining aged five, is very familiar to those around the club he is not well known beyond the City Campus. The centre-back, whose full name is Abdul-Nasir Oluwatosin Adarabioyo, has less than 11,000 Twitter followers and his bio features a phonetic guide on how to pronounce his name (Toe-sin Ada-rah-bye-yo for those covering City on commentary duty any time soon).

A strong ball-playing centre half, the 18-year-old Mancunian signed his first professional contract with City upon turning 17 in September 2014. Jason Wilcox appointed the then 16-year-old as Under 18s skipper as a first year scholar at the start of the 2014-15 campaign. Against Borussia Dortmund in pre-season the City academy star was man of the match The previous season Adarabioyo made 17 appearances as part of the U18 squad that clinched the Premier League North Division title while also turning out seven times for the Elite Development Squad against players up to four years his senior. An ever-present in the 2014-15 UEFA Youth League campaign, Adarabioyo was a key part of a stingy back line that conceded just four goals to help City to a 100 per cent record in the group stages.

Last season he was a regular Simon Davies' EDS side, also leading City to the FA Youth Cup where they lost to Chelsea for the second year in a row. The defender has been a captain of City's age group sides since his first year as a scholar. He made his first team debut in the Manuel Pellegrini's much maligned selection against Chelsea in the FA Cup but could be in line for a bigger role this season, especially with Kompany's injury issues not going anywhere.

Guardiola is clearly impressed. Adarabioyo played in all of City's pre-season friendlies and was named man of the match against Borussia Dortmund. With senior players coming back Adarabioyo may still leave the club on loan this season but Guardiola has already said the youngster has the quality to challenge first-team place. The rangy centre half has played for England's age group team from the Under 16s up. The rangy centre half has played for England's age group team from the Under 16s up. He made his debut for the Under 19s in November last year against Japan in Manchester

'Definitely, yes,' he told the Manchester Evening News when asked if Adarabioyo was capable of playing regularly. 'I don't know what is going to happen because Vincent Kompany will come back.'Until 31 of August, a lot of things can happen - but if you ask me today my opinion, he will be our player. A star at the City Campus, the youngster has plenty of experience in the UEFA Youth League. A star at the City Campus, the youngster has plenty of experience in the UEFA Youth League. And I like a lot to work with these kinds of players. 'He has his whole career in front of him. Against two tough teams like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, he played really well.'
Of Nigerian heritage, Adarabioyo has played for England from Under 16 age and earned a first cap for the England Under 19s against Japan in 2015. Unlike older brother Fisayo Adarabioyo, Tosin has turned down an approach to play for the Super Eagles and is focused on playing for the Three Lions.

When will these clowns realize that England is not France. All these Nigerian players will not play for England. They will use them and dump them for the next great white hope.

I very much doubt this to be true. The only Adarabioyo that has been mentioned repeatedly is Tosin (this one) and only relatively recently.

All the time he was in the junior Man City ranks the focus was on 'Nacho, and it was in following Nacho that we noticed this gangly Nigerian kid in the heart of the defence. Developmentally, he was behind Nacho and I believe he was probably one set behind but occasionally played in the same EDS team as Nacho. So how he could have been approached by the senior Naija team is beyond me.
As for his elder brother, has anyone even heard of him before?

I suspect this is simply the beginnings of a campaign to keep him English and away from interested Nigerian recruiters.

:D Someone needs to tweet this message to all of these guys
Personally I wouldn't lose sleep if they all decide to waste their international careers waiting for England
Only ones I'm keen on are aina(because we need a top right back) and ejaria (because he's genuinely exceptional)

Some of these guys may not even see Nigeria as a viable option. It all depends on their upbringing (cultural upbringing, parents relationship with Nigeria etc).

Truye words, Zelex. It is okay to sit behind a PC keyboard and dream about these kids possibly playing for their fatherland. But even if your father loves Nigeria but has been dissuaded by bad roads and kidnapping and armed robbery from trying to take his family to his village, it is unlikely that playing soccer for that country would be an aspiration for a teenager.

Fisayo was on the list of 46 players that Siasia initially called up for the U23 team...

Maybe they know what they are doing; besides, our NFF is not helping matters by owing player's bonuses, flight ticket refunds and et al. Thus, ...

Zelex, I don't know whether you live in the UK, but for the most part, Nigerian kids brought up with their parents strongly identify with Nigeria. I suspect it might be different in the US, but here in the UK, the Nigerian culture is everywhere. Even other Africans are 'peppered' by it.
I see Nigerian kids from all walks of life, good, bad and baddest and being Nigerian isnt an issue for them. You can thank Nigerian pop culture for much of that, including Afrobeats and Nollywood.

So their decision on whether or not to play for Nigeria will have more to do with how they weigh their professional options, not on the basis of how they identify with the country.

You're underestimating teenagers, especially the ones that grew up in the western world. I'm sorry but Nigeria isn't exactly the shining light some of you homesick people make it out to be, when you keep hearing horror stories about what goes on with football and in general you'll understand why some of these folks say "No, thanks". Not everyone is cut out for that mess.

I think your post is a fair assessment of the situation in the UK. However I believe that it a case of now being more willing to acknowledge their Nigeria heritage (and are proud of it). They identify themselves as British Nigerians. British first though, after all it is were they were grew up (talking as one myself). Nigeria in most cases is still their second option and I do believe this is largely to do with where they feel comfortable. Just my opinion I may be wrong.
