Away from separatist soccer, let’s celebrate pure football here in CE for all its worth.
This post will take evergreen gurus here back to the most discussed FA Cup in the history of Nigerian football; the 1978 Final between Nigeria's finest club Rangers International of Enugu and Bendel Insurers of Benin at the National stadium Surulere.

07.10.1978. What a day, what a match!

The difference and uniqueness is the Radio commentary that afternoon by the best Radio commentator in the Nation’s history – Ernest Okonkwo and his sidekick Tolu Fatoyimbo as well as Emmanuel Egharevba. The outcome that day was a surprise and it marked a watershed in the country’s football breaking a hitherto two team monopoly.

As a primary school boy glued to a radio, this game as well as the AFCON final match 18 months later that ended with the same emphatic scoreline in favor for the green eagles made the game of soccer the best passion in the world for me.

Rangers International

Emmanuel Okala
Innocent Obiekwu
Patrick Ekeji
Sam Onyeaka
Christian Madu (Chimezie Ngadi)
Christian Chukwu (C)
Okey Isima
Aloysius Atuegbu
Nnamdi Nwokocha
Patrick Iluno
Adokiye Amesiemeka

Bendel Insurers
Agwo Nnaji
David Adiele
Kadiri Ikhana
Felix Agbonifo (C)
Francis Moniedafe
George Boateng
Christopher Ogu
Henry Ogboe
Peter Egharevba
George Omokaro
Rufus Ejele (Ebenezer Bajah)

Ernest Okonkwo at his best that day:
“Nr 5 Christian Madu takes the ball across the center circle……..”

“Weary Rangers, Embattled Rangers, Beleaguered Rangers, what can they do?”

“Bendel Insurers again, can that be a third goal?.....It is a Goooaaalll! Goal number three for Bendel Insurers”.

"Enugu Rangers boys have come, have seen, and have been conquered!”
Ernest Okonkwo 1978

“Bendel won and won clean. Enugu Rangers are congratulating the victors in a good show of sportsmanship”.

The country misses this great Icon.

PART 1

cant upload the whole game once. I'll break into partitions and send, and hope someone can tell me what platform to upload more than 250mb once.

Shouldn't that be 'Leotus Boateng', instead?

Plus around the country many were glued to transistor radios and black and white tv.
Those days before the invasion of european football.
