Why defeat is good for us

Post by dcf »

Our defeat against Morocco was a fair reflection on a game in which our undermanned midfield was swamped.

But only one of our best three midfielders (Okocha) is even in the squad. Oliseh, Obodo and Oruma were watching on TV, primarily for political reasons.

Our only hope of getting to the World Cup, let alone doing well there, is to have all of our best players and a world-class coach. And the only way in which the likes of Oliseh and Oruma are going to get recalled is if our failure in the Nations Cup shames the NFA and Ministry of Sport into lifting the unofficial ban on their selection.

As things stand, we are a team with the potential to be a second tier soccer nation, but without the strength in depth to be able to afford to leave our better players out of the squad.

Defeat at the Nations Cup might just be our salvation.
