Poor guy. He plays with all his heart and energy. It’s so evident each time you see him. Hope his extra-ocular muscles are spared becos base on what the report above says, he had an inferior orbital wall blow-out fracture with herniation of orbital contents. It also sounds like he had a maxillary sinus wall fracture. Seems like the fractures have multiple segments/fragments hence the allusion to compression-type injury. Poor thing will have to walk around with multiple screws and plates on his face.

Osimhen could make early return to training albeit with a caveat

The Napoli star was ruled out for three months after sustaining a nasty facial injury in his side’s 3-2 loss against Inter Milan in the Serie A, but his time on the sidelines could be reduced

Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen could make an early return to action despite being ruled out for three months with a head injury, but he would have to make use of a protective mask to make that happen.

The former Lille goal poacher was substituted in the 55th minute of Napoli’s 3-2 loss to Serie A title rivals Inter Milan after a collision with Milan Milan Skriniar left him with a broken cheekbone and a swollen face.

However, the Nigerian international has undergone surgery and was discharged from the Ruesch clinic on Thursday.

Napoli confirmed after the surgery that their striker would be out for three months, ruling him out of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

However, according to reports from Fantacalcio, the Neapolitans plan to have the 22-year-old return to training in January, wearing a protective mask.

But he would only train alone and not with his teammates to avoid physical contact.

Whilst this might be great news for Napoli, Osimhen would still not be able to return in time to lead the Super Eagles attack at the AFCON, which starts on the 9th of January.

He plays with too much force. If he wants a long career, he’ll have to figure out how to play less recklessly.

That said I hope he gets some sort of protective mask like Jiminez when he returns.

My biggest concern is that the same area might get impacted again in the Italian League or even in the world cup where they play hard if Nigeria were to qualify. Your eye coming out of the socket is no joke.

Wish him speedy recovery. He needs to learn to play the game beautifully and easily so he and the fans can enjoy it more. The kind of clumsy jambody football he plays sometimes makes for a tough watch.

Yep that is what I suspected. They dont want him to go to Afcon. Nigeria should still invite him and have our own specialist look at him.

Report: Huge boost for the Super Eagles as Osimhen is set to return to training

The 22-year-old has been ruled out of action for three months, but he could make a return to action earlier than scheduled

Super Eagles have been handed a huge boost ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations after it was revealed that Victor Osimhen could make an early return to training.

Osimhen suffered an injury to his left cheekbone and orbit after colliding with Milan Skriniar in Napoli’s Serie A clash against Inter Milan at the San Siro.

As a result, the former Lille star went through a successful but complicated surgery. Napoli announced their star striker would be out for three months following the surgery, ruling him out of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

However, according to La Gazzetta, as per Tutto Napoli, Osimhen could make an early return to action earlier than scheduled.

The Nigerian has already had his stitches removed and will undergo another X-ray on Tuesday. Should the result be positive, Osimhen will return to training, albeit with a protective mask.

This latest development could see the former Lille striker turn out for the Super Eagles at AFCON, which begins on January 9.

The Super Eagles begin their campaign two days later and will be hoping to have Osimhen available for the clash against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Why do you seem to insist he plays at AFCON?
I think the young man should take a rest, make full recovery, then get back to playing in great shape.
Rushing him into any game, club or country, will be too risky.

I agree. This guy needs to be fully healed. There is no need to rush.

In my view, he better consider seeing a private doctor than rely on the team doctor. These teams have an entirely different goal that may not be the best for the player's health.

As for Nigeria, there is absolutely no reason to get him on the field until her is FULLY HEALED and READY TO PLAY.

Prof, but he won’t be relying on the team doctor.
Highly prized assets like Osimhen will be (and are) given access to the best surgeon specialists in the country, sometimes the whole world. In this case, a maxillo-facial surgeon and maybe a whole team of specialists including neuro, ophthalmological and even plastic surgeons. Those guys are not going to mess about with their careers and reputations by not knowing what they are doing.

Insurance allows the team to spare no expense. Remember how Inter flew Kanu out to the USA for heart surgery because the surgeon wasn’t just a cardiac surgeon but super-specialized in high performance athletes. That wasn’t even an injury, but an undetected birth defect of the heart.

Napoli paid a club record of €70m for Osimhen.
They are not about to risk one cent of that investment barely a year into the contract by not getting the very best to work on him.

I personally do not recall ever reading of any player anywhere complaining about medical treatment offered by a top club in professional football after an injury.
If it does happen, it must be extremely rare.

I do recall saying he would be back training in a few weeks and I was insulted here. Rudiger had a facial injury and came back with a face mask.. victor Osimhen is young, fit , stronger and a fighter. Some players do heal faster. Going forward he should start using his elbow more to protect himself..alas Drogba, Alan Sherer etc

If he can play without any setbacks. He should play. It will take several months for the injury to be fully healed. Nigeria should complain to FIFA if Napoli plays him while Afcon is going on. I am insisting on Osimhen because Nigeria don't have any one at same level.

I am unaware of the doctor or doctors he is used. However, I read somewhere that the ream doctor made a statement concerning recovery timeline. That is what bothers me if Victor relies on that. I hope he has a doctor that he trusts and not the team doctor who may be beholden to team needs.
