NIGERIA IN WORKMAN-LIKE WIN 3-1........

Post by Enugu II »

Nigeria knew Sudan needed points from this game to stay alive. Nigeria was not prepared to grant those easily and stayed very disciplined staying back and waiting to pounce on opportunities. It was a stark difference from the previous game where Nigeria took the initiative. But by staying back and inviting the Sudanese forward, Nigeria was very fortunate to score very early within the first two minutes as Chukwuese, who drifted early to the middle and left scored off a deep chance.
A minute after resumption, it was three. Simon found Awoniyi and the return placed Simon free to score. A desperate Sudan was beaten. Nigeria, already on a slower gear, further went to pedestrian mode. They passed the ball around leisurely looking for a solitary break. An increasingly desperate Sudan then received a gift. After 68 minutes, Aina lazily tugged on an attacker's shirt in the box as a corner kick arrived. It took the Sudanese going down and a visit to the VAR to spot the infringement. With Aina in the books, the Sudanese scrambled the spot kick opportunity beyond Okoye to reduce the tally.

The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics

Our SE needs to show cratsmanship on the field. We are not Cameroon.

I added appearances (in subscripts) to names of players in the line up. See update.

A lot of folks believe Aina got the pen because of the tug. No, it was his foot. He deliberately stepped on the foot of the attacker and held it down until he fell over.

They don’t give defenders yellow cards for shirt pulls…cause everyone would get a yellow. It was what he did with his foot
