If he met all these target, why was he terminated? Was “beautiful football” written anywhere on his contract?? They problem is that, Nigerians overrate their players, disregard History and doesn’t learn their lesson. I just want someone to give me a good reason why Rohr was sacked.
In my view, Gernot Rohr, was correctly SACKED. You cannot have a coach manage Nigeria to three uninspiring results AT HOME and you keep that manager. There should be zero regrets for getting rid of Rohr. It is not as if he had won anything for Nigeria to earn a reprieve after those poor results at home. It was good riddance.

Prof, I totally disagree. The problem is that we value feelings over fact in this country. Do you realize that Rohr has the highest winning record among all Nigeria coaches?? Yes, we embarrassingly lost to CAR and tie Cape Verde at home, but do you realize that we rectified such result by defeating them in their house?? My point is simple, Hire a coach, set a target for him and if he fails to meet such target, sack Him. (So easy) one shouldn’t start adding unnecessary feelings to an already signed contract. The sad part of these situations is that, we have done similar things in 2002, 2010 and the end result was a Colossal Failure. Why did we think that the result will be different. In this life, I only need 1 mistake to learn my lesson

Football isn’t a mathematical equation bro. The end supersede the beginning. Where was losing to CAR documented as a terminable offense? He still qualified at the end

He still qualified in the end, but left his employers with zero confidence that he could take us any further. When you lose the confidence of your employers you will normally get fired.

That's the bottom line.

Was inspiring confidence written on his contract?? We love to put feelings over fact in this country

Do you watch football at all? All over the world coaches get fired despite meeting their objectives. Fabio Capello won La Liga with Real Madrid and was still fired.

Bottom line is that the NFF lost confidence in Rohr and they terminated his contract.

Untrue. His target that year was to win the Champions league and not the league. The last time that Madrid unfairly removed clause makalele from their team after winning a cl, they didn’t win another CL in a decade

Na lie! He was fired for winning with an uninspiring brand of football. Mind you he was only at Madrid for one season.

John12,

It is neither about feelings nor is it about the coach's overall record. It is none of those.

Coaches are fired based on a calculation of a trend. Notice that most managers that get fired lose their jobs because they have a track of poor results. Sometimes it is lengthy and sometimes it is shorter. The latest example is Rohr and Eguavoen. The former was fired after a trend of poor home results (see S/Leone, CAR, and CPV) and Eguavoen resigns (see loss to Tunisia). That is the way it is. Rohr should not stay based on his qualification to the 2018 WC or third place in AFCON 2018. The decision is/was on the three games that indicated a trend. That is what it is/was.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics

If capellini had won the champions league that year at Madrid, his job would had been safe. No sane organization sack an individual that has met their target except for personal reasons

So was winning the Champions League in one season in his contract?

Rohr would have made the last 16
He won Bronze in 2019
Beat these Tunisians and these dangerous Camerounians twice
