Abeg leave Rohr and Eguavoen alone

Post by Scipio Africanus »

At this level a coach isn't going to teach you how to cross the ball better or use your brain to decide when a simple give-and-go is required instead of dribbling into blind alleys, or how to strike the ball with the correct technique, or take better free kicks. The harsh truth is that our players, with a few exceptions, ain't all that.

Tunisia players are all that ?

Egu lost the match tactically. Who chose those players who could not carry out those tasks ?

Whose tactics lead to our wingers and forwards being isolated ?

Who designated Simon our free kick and corner kick taker ?

Who started a player who struggled to trap the ball all tournament long ?

Who started the useless Chukwueze and failed to immediately make changes at the half ?

Did Egu not discover Nwakali who was the solution to our dead ball situation ?

Please.

Idiotic argument. Our main winger(Simon) chose to isolate himself by aimless dribbles into cul-de-sacs, over and over again. Eguavoen didn't tell him not to cut inside and look for a give and go, or not to quickly cross the ball accurately to take out the 3 or so men marking him.

Our players largely lack football IQ and technical ability (how to shoot, cross, take inswinging free kicks with the correct bend etc).

Face that fact. People who are paid millions to find players for top clubs have passed on almost all of our players. There is a reason for that. They aren't fools. Maybe Rohr had a point after all.

You aren't really going to find me defending Simon, or any of our other cul-de-sac runners.

But a 442 forces your wingers even wider and more into isolation than a 433. It will increase the chances that guys like Simon and Chuks will engage in those cul-de-sac dribbles.

There is blame to go around, but most of the blame is on Egu.

He knows what kind of wingers he has.

Ones that can't cross and make poor decisions. His 442 formation exacerbates those negative traits.
