Eguavoen Track record Vs Ghana

Post by john12 »

Currently on paper, Nigeria has a much tougher squad (on paper) than Ghana and it might be highly ignorant to hire a new coach this late.. but, Eguavoen track record vs Ghana is Alarming.

For example, in 2006, an Eguavoen led team defeated Ghana 1-0 at the ANC

In 2007, An Eguavoen led team lost to Ghana 4-1 at London dubbed the “brentford massacre”

In 2011, an Eguavoen led team lost to Ghana 2-0 in an all important Olympic qualifier after winning 3-1 at home and got Eliminated from the London olympics.
Basically, his last 2 games as a coach vs Ghana was a disappointment.
Do you guys think, we should disregard such previous defeat and stick with Eguavoen for the Qualifiers or a new coach “peseiro” should take charge at that game? I heard from a reliable source that peseiro hasn’t signed any contract and NFF are considering retaining Eguavoen for the Ghana game. I really like Eguavoen as a coach but the best discernment of future result is previous History

It was olympics game that included the star studded Haruna lookman, rabiu ibrahim era. Remember, how we missed that 2012 Olympics

Sir, whether it happened 10,20 or 50 years ago. One should never underestimate history. In fact, it’s only history that’s on Ghana side at the next game. Everything else, we’re much better

We only missed the Olympics because Eguavoen played with the foreign players all through and was winning with high margins but for the final game, most clubs refused to release the foreign based, could be because of the timing....Friendly matches shouldn't really count.

If we win, their history against us will still be quite good. History is useless information now , win next 2 games or you're history.

Strange as it may, similar words were spoken by most Nigerians prior to the Brentford Massacre.
Those who fail to learn from history only set themselves up for a disaster.

History matters because cultural artefacts endure.

It depends what endures and what hasn't. Wingplay has endured in Nigerian football for example, is this something that Ghana have an antidote to? Is it the formations that have endured?

If we answer these types of questions then we can determine whether we should be worried.
Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT
