Nigeria had a good penalty case which resulted to a yelllow card being issued to Etebo..

What are you talking about? A foul by Kelechi is why VAR overturned the PK so the result is a FK for Ghana rather than the PK…wasn’t that obvious?TonyTheTigerKiller wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 2:57 am The odd thing is why award a free kick against Nigeria? No one besides the Ghanaian player committed any infractions. At the worst, should have been a drop ball.
Cheers.
That Etebo show was one of those things that's lacking discipline and class.truemamamia wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 3:08 am What was Etebo trying to achieve? Has the referee reversed the decision? lol

Why act like a wild animal towards the referee, then kneel and beg not to be booked?
Purely, a moment of insanity.
Yep. Made me think what effect VAR would've had on Henry Nwosu's disallowed goal against Cameroon at Maroc 88 final, and Ikpeba's penalty against Cameroon at the 2000 AFCON final. What if...mcal wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 5:29 am ...clear foul, Ghana will thank their gods for VAR.
The whole sequence there was bad decision as the 2 SE players pounced.
Iheanacho dragged the defender's right leg causing him to fall and his hands touched the ball.
May not have been seen in real time, but for VAR, that was easy call.
All that AFTER the ref had viewed the VAR. Something Etebo hadn't. So Etebo felt that his split second view of the incident from far away should override the refs and VAR officials' review of the VAR.joao wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 6:11 amThat Etebo show was one of those things that's lacking discipline and class.truemamamia wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 3:08 am What was Etebo trying to achieve? He and Kelechi were the ones pressuring the Breda that conceded the PK. So his wasn’t a view from far away. But still daft as he couldn’t have seen what Kele did from where he was.theYemster wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 9:50 amAll that AFTER the ref had viewed the VAR. Something Etebo hadn't. I don’t know where you saw a foul by Kelechi. The guy slipped and fell and touched the ball with his hand while falling. The penalty ruling was reversed because he didn’t handle the ball deliberatelymaceo4 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 3:12 amWhat are you talking about? Thank you! We really need to be more vocal! I remember how Mikel was elbowed in the face against France, he didn’t protest or even go to the floor, Giroud wasnt even given a yellow! In that same game,Onazi's ankle was broken by Matuidi and nobody protested, he wasn't even given a yellow talkless of red!Enugu II wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 12:32 pmDamunkDamunk wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 6:24 amA very stupid moment.joao wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 6:11 amThat Etebo show was one of those things that's lacking discipline and class.truemamamia wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 3:08 am What was Etebo trying to achieve? Protests like that matter in sports. It is not really about this incident but about future ones. It is psychological. You do that to make the match officials fdecisions go into a "correction" mood. However, in some minor cases it could backfire but that is only in minor cases and thus many apply such psychological pressure on match officials.
The purpose of a VAR review is to rectify initial wrong calls and confirm correct ones. Protesting is good when you are not getting the attention from the ref like the Mikel and Onazi instances you cited. However, this wasn't the case. In the Kumasi scenario, the ref was on the spot and had IMMEDIATELY whistled for a penalty (on face value). However, per the rules, such calls are automatically reviewed by the VAR officials, and if there is a reason for the ref to review his initial decision, the ref is notified to go to watch the replay and confirm or change his initial call.gochino wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 5:55 pmThank you! Oh boy... some things you just read, and keep moving. This is why most of the rubbish you read on CE is not worth responding to. People can watch something white and see black.maceo4 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 3:12 amWhat are you talking about?
