NNL Suspends Jigawa’s ‘Volleyball Striker’ For More Than One Season.



Nigeria National League, NNL have suspended striker, Mohammed Alim of Jigawa Golden Stars Football Club, for the rest of this season and the whole of the 2024/2025 season for his infamous conduct

This was one of the several decisions taken by the NNL on Sunday after the Dutse show of shame where Jigawa defeated Abuja based Sporting Supreme by 2-1.

Mohammed was seen in a video that has gone viral using his hands to throw the ball into the net, even as the referee who has since been suspended by the NFF allowed it as a goal.

The NNL in their decision noted that the player dubiously used his hands in a manner that brings the the game to disrepute.

It would be noted that the NFF had in a swift reaction expelled Refeferee Nasiru from Katsina State from football.

The governing body of Football in Nigeria,NFF has expelled two “demon” referees for bring the beautiful game to disrepute in the Nigeria National League fixture in Deutse.

Centre Referee Zaharadeen Nasiru of the Katsina State Referees Council and one of his Assistant ,Usman Auwalu from Borno State Council have been expelled for their acts in discrediting football .The Football arbiters awarded questionable goals and penalty to the home team,Jigawa Golden Stars of Deutse in a Conference D ,day 13 encounter with Sporting Supreme Football club of Abuja to gift Jigawa a 2-1 victory.

In a letter signed by Ameenu Mohammed v NFF/CAF referee instructor on behalf of the Chairman of the NFF Referees Committee, and made available NNL,the NFF viewed the action of the umpires as “Serious natured one that has brought the refereeing and the game in Nigeria into disrepute.

It therefore, concluded that Messrs Zaharadeen Naisiru and Usman Auwalu be expelled with immediate effect from the Nigeria National League and refereeing.


In inglorious video of the match in Dutse gone viral displays two players of Jigawa Golden Stars openly scoring with their hands like in Volleyball game to the disappointing watch of the referees who allowed goal goal stand and another occasion, awarding a penalty to Jigawa for no reason while a player of Sporting Supreme noded away a corner kick.

It is the right decision. They need to go further and order replays.

That decision is really harsh. It was not violent conduct or abuse of an official. A 1 match ban for the player (and suspending the referee who allowed the goal to stand) should have sufficed.

Expelling the refs, yes but suspending the player, typical power-drunk move that Nigerians are prone to. At the very worst, a one game suspension and a reversal of the result would have been in order

That would have been a very quick investigation so I'm sceptical.

It was more sinister. The ref and the team in yellow were in cohorts on it. Great decisions by the Nff. Nigerians have a reckless disregard for authority as well as integrity. A reasonable response has no effect on Nigerians, it’s when the punishment is unreasonable that they take notice. I think they should’ve suspended the whole team including the coach for 5yrs and fined the N50m per player.

It was not a harsh decision to ban the players for 2 years. That was a gross violation of the rules. The players made a mockery of the sport. It should send a clear message to any one else that want to engage in match fixing or to make a mockery of the sport. After saying that, every one has the right to appeal. I hope they don't reverse the decision.

The play was just too duplicitous to be an accidental handball. The league had to do something so severe so as to discourage such a blatant and brazen attempt at bringing the game to disrepute.

In such a crime it takes two. A player who knowingly commits such egregious play and the referee who is in cahoots with such a player.
