GOVERNMENT OF IMO STATE

PRESS RELEASE

Uzodimma unveils Amuneke Technical Manager Heartland Football Club Owerri

The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma has unveiled a renowned football administrator and tactician, Mr. Emmanuel Amuneke as the Technical Manager of Heartland Football Club Owerri, Imo State.

He did at the New Executive Council Chambers, Government House Owerri on Monday (August 5, 2024), where he said that the idea was to "reposition the Heartland Football Club for a brighter future to the happiness of Imo people and football enthusiasts in particular."

The Governor recalled that on assumption of office in 2020 his administration met a Heartland Football Club that was relegated and that he made frantic efforts to bring it back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPF).

He however regretted that recent events show that the Football Club has gone back to the drain again, "and can only come back to life by reorganising the administrative structure and reposition the management and technical team of the Club."

The Governor said to deal with the situation on ground, he has been able to identify one of Nigeria's best in football management and technical administration/know-how, in the person of Mr Emmanuel Amuneke, to manage and bring back Heartland FC to her past glory.

Governor Uzodimma therefore expressed joy that Amuneke has graciously accepted and agreed to take up the responsibility, noting
that the "target of the technical team is that they must win the Premiership and go for Continental competition.”

The Governor assured that his government is commited towards "providing the necessary needs that will enable the technical team succeed and put joy and smile back on the faces of our people and bring back what Heartland FC used to be."

To make Amuneke's job effective and seamless, devoid of unnecessary bureaucracy, the Governor offered to deal directly with his Management team through direct reportage to his office.

Responding to the offer, Mr Amuneke thanked the Governor, government and people of Imo State for the privilege to serve and promised to do his best, humanly possible, to achieve the set target of bringing Heartland Football Club back to where it used to be.

He described the assignment as homecoming for him, noting that the assignment to succeed is a collective thing and that he is driven by the objective of ensuring success at any point in time because “the people deserve to have happiness and joy on their faces always.”

The unveiling was witnessed by all members of Imo Executive Council in attendance for an emergency Exco sitting of the State.

The football tactician was accompanied by the management and staff of the Ministry of Sports Development in Imo State.

Oguwike Nwachuku
Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor

Amuneke needs to perform or else…

These are the kind of results we need to see:

Heartland 6-0 Rivers United

Rivers United 0-3 Heartland.

Heartland is not in the NPFL. It's in NNL. It should be a "Herculean Task" for Amunike. If he brings Heartland back to NPFL in one season, that will be great.

There has been noise about Heartland purchasing Beyond Limits’ slot in the NPFL given they share the same owner as Remo Stars. That possibility seems more realistic now that they’ve unveiled Amunike but we’ll see. IMO this has brought down his stocks as a coach but it’s better than nothing

Maybe see it the other way - an opportunity to add value to his profile.
It wasn’t exactly great before and many of us thought he needed to stop living on past u17 glory.
This is about men, not boys, and he has done little or nothing at that level.

Finidi’s stock rose when he won the NPFL with Enyimba.

...agree with you, but the problem is our millionaires and billionaires that own a football club are not that business smart, plus when they are out of the picture, aka dead, the business collapse so is the club.

For such a sport played hugely and primarily, one will think every d#$% and harry will want to invest in it.
Cultivate players, and sell them, no be so oyinbos dey do?

It’s really sad when Gov’s are appointing coaches. Amunike is a good coach but he has no choice.

"Living off his U-17 glory" is not true for a man that qualified Tanzania for the AFCON for the first time in 32 years.

His resume is better than Sainfelt, the so called world class coach they want to hire .

U17 World cup winner. He was the coach that tutored Osimhen, Chukwuzz and etc.
Led Tazania to their first Afcon ever.

He is not a white man with blue eyes. So he is not world class.
Winners do it the right way.

In their usual messy fashion 30 players were signed by Heartland

The likes of Udochukwu Anumudu, Ejike Ikwu & Chukwudi Agor were part of Amunike's World Cup winning U17 squad but have struggled to find their feet at the senior level

That is a lot of signings for Heartland.
Will be watching, supporting when my club 3SC is not playing.
Will also be watching Finidi at Rivers. Got to support all local coaches.

So he has gone back to sign them? I hope he knows what he is doing. This might be his one and only chance to prove himself good enough for the SE job.

The SE job is no longer attractive. And it is not Amuneke last chance. He didn't get his first chance or 2nd chance. He did win the World U17 world cup. Qualified Tanzania for Afcon for the first time.
Winners do it the right way.

Amunike learning very early the uphill task he has with a club that was relegated last season with over half of his squad being NPFL debutants. The only positive is they have last seasons topscorer Chijoke Mbaoma

All these coaches hovering around the national team suck. Ammunition Finidi, Bosso Yusuf all trash. The Eyinmba coach is the guy we should be keeping an eye on especially for the youth teams.
