Tobi17 wrote: Mon May 05, 2025 6:45 am I know Mallam Bameyi is quite a controversial player but he's a solid/no-nonsense old school type of defender, surely there must be something coaches see in him that stands out. We need tough defenders in the SE and if we can produce them from this U20 set, then it's a win. The Goal keepers also look solid.
If he is an overage player who has already peaked, then he is taking the position of a player with more growth potential that we should be spending the time and resources on.
...'if' is the operating word.
If he is found to be overage that may cost Nigeria. I hope not.
If he is within under 20, then let him play if he is good.
I guess he is.
I thought the controversy was that he has been around for a long time, so he must be overage.
...then we are playing with fire if opposition finds out and complain.

So what you saw yesterday is good enough to challenge for AFCON and the World Cup?
...train them, day in day out, we can't rely on ready-made all the time.
Give them the vest of top notch training afforded a national football team, from the camping to remuneration and allowances etc.
Let them be serious for one.
If poor Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Lesotho can hold your euro stars, what's the big deal using these home grown, hopefully well trained.
Who should train them? The national team coaches?

National team players are trained by their clubs and selected to represent their countries.

The fact that Rwanda and Lesotho held our European based stars does not mean that our Nigerian based stars will beat them. Also, if our Euro-based stars play both teams 10 times, I can bet you they will beat them t8 times. The gap is there but anything can happen on the football pitch on a bad day.
...what have we/they got to lose but to lose like the euro-based stars.
We have assembled these guys many times only have a disappointment.

Again I ask, what did you see in the U20 guys to make you believe they even have a chance against the Lesothos and Zimbabwes of Africa?

Hustle with poor judgment is schoolboy football. You don’t win games with hustle.

I don’t know why people think hustle is a skill that wins games. I’ve come to realize that the more a player is known for hustling the more limited his impact on the game will be. Mikel and Oliseh are some of the best MF we’d ever had but they also did way less hustling than Ndidi and Onyeaka. Onazi as a big time high energy hustler, probably the best hustler we;ve had in generations along with Garba LAWAL. Even Sani Kaita was a sweat merchant of decent caliber who was honest with himself. Onyedika is a dm that knows how to distribute the ball, shoot and initiate play but he’s not a hustler. Imho, hustle dependent players are low skilled and limited.

Mcal you be my guy but this your recommendation is typical Nigerian ‘anyhowness’.
I don’t know why the black panthers refuse to explain why our CHAN ‘stars’ can’t make an impact in Africa, but expect them to step into the full SE and succeed against the same African opponents.

...you know it, I know it, and Nigerian people know it too. It's Preparation!
If the NFA afford the same high level attention and preparation they give the euro-star to the home based, they definitely will prosecute matches on the continent successfully.
The country and people are stupendously corrupt.
na one day one day, someone would turn inwards for players instead of looking to a distant continent called europe.
