U20 Afcon v Senegal

Post by EMIR KONGI JAFFI JOFFA »

Chaaaiii…..dem dawg days could be upon us. We’re facing the possibility of missing not only the WC but the world youth cup. :scared: :scared: :scared: I pray not but there could be some harsh realities ahead.
Never thought this could happen but I remain hopeful because it would not only devastate our senior generation, it could also stunt the up and coming. God Dey o! :scared:

It's going to be a competitive game. But I see Nigeria as the slight favorites in this one because Senegal that I've seen in this tournament ain't all that. Two of their three goals so far have come from pks. And they don't play well as a unit. They also don't have a star like Lamine Camara who can be a.game changer.

This is a tough one for these set of flying Eagles. But anything can happen in football.

I can tell you that judging from the group stage perfomances, Senegal are most likely the ones sweating on their pants now.

Senegal are not that good. Unfortunately, Naija could have assembled a much better team. That being said, we should all be patriots.

I don’t think the flying eagles are that superb either they were outplayed by Kenya for about 40%

The Flying Eagles are a terrible football team judging by all the matches played during the group phase. I cannot see them playing better.

The game plan of hoofing the ball upfront and hoping for the best reveals limited & tactical deficient coach that should not be in charge of a secondary school team let alone a national side. Personally I would rather the team sit a home rather than take that eyesore to the World stage.

...doe this 'hoofing the ball' start from the first kickoff whistle or is it when they are behind and desperate win/draw?
Every team both pro and non-pro will play long ball when behind and desperate. So that act is not exclusive to Nigerian team.
Let's hope they don't get behind at any time, and start passing ball in the back, and you all will get angry at them wasting time in the back.

I think you need to watch the team play for yourself to really understand how terrible they are. No creativity in midfield and the strikers appear clueless upfront. The only positive is the goalkeeper and the back four. The rest of the team are very very poor.

...I have watched them lately, and plan to watch later today. Fingers crossed.
Their play is no different from the overall Nigeria football of recent including the senior team.
That begs to ask, what is our problem, and how can it be fixed? Not quick fix, but long term.

Our problem is scouting of the lack of it and technical competence of the coaching crew. What was the criteria used to select such a more midfield and forward line??? What is the coaches experience/ achievements in football????

When SS coached the u20s he scouted his players and camped them for several months before the tournament. They qualified for the World Cup and came second only to Messi & Argentina. Shouldn’t this process be used as the route to success ?
Appoint Competent coach
Scout talent players

...that is the key statement.
The NFA does not, and have not been doing that.

Team shows flashes of promise, but makes very poor decisions when it matters most.
Bushboy's bushmen : 1.Isaac Success 2. Terem Moffi 3. Victor Boniface 4. Samuel Omorodion. 5. Samson Tijani. 6. Rafiu Durosinmi. 7. George Ilenikhena.

The coach should be retained, but the team.needs to be beefed up with better talent. I like the philosophy, its the execution that's lacking.

This is their best performance so far but with the usual schoolboy errors in our attacking game. They are really fired up for today's game knowing what it means for their career. A win today and they would be playing in a World Cup in from of scouts.

Senegal are just slightly more composed in the third half and looking the more likely to score first.

CAF want Senegal to win. It's pretty obvious with the officiating.
